Sue Carr MA, MBACP (Accred). UKRCP
I offer both long-term, open-ended, counselling and also short-term solution-focused counselling. I see adults, including couples, and young people, in a comfortable, confidential environment, where difficult feelings can be explored and new insights gained.
Making the decision to come for counselling can be quite daunting, so our initial meeting is an opportunity for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling, ask questions, and for me to explain what I can offer, so that you can decide whether you think this is the right step for you.
I also offer short-term, time limited, work where the focus is on one specific problem or difficulty, using either CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques or a Solution Focused approach. This may lead to longer term work so that the issues can be explored in greater depth.
I offer relationship counselling to couples, allowing both partners to explore their difficulties and be heard without being judged. Relationship counselling is for any couple who recognise that they are experiencing difficulties, such as:
Poor communication, anger issues, breakdown of trust, domestic violence, infidelity, jealousy, sexual problems.
My main approach is psychodynamic, exploring how past experiences may be impacting on present difficulties. You will be given the space to gain new insights into your difficulties, enabling you to consider what changes you may wish to make.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling from the University of Hertfordshire and an Advanced Certificate in Pastoral Care and Counselling from Barnabus Training Consortium. I also hold a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Skills Certificate and can integrate elements of CBT into my practice where appropriate, for example, when working with issues such as phobias, anxiety, anger and depression or when clients want a more time limited approach.
As well as working in private practice, I have several years' experience working in the voluntary sector for a counselling agency and I also take referrals from several EAPs (Employee Assistance Providers).
As an Accredited member of the BACP, I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I was previously a Registered Nurse working for the NHS.
