About me

I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor working in South Manchester, currently offering appointments online. With over 18 years experience, I provide a safe, confidential environment in which you can discuss your feelings and concerns.

I imagine that you may have clicked onto this site because something in your life is not how you want it to be. Perhaps you are feeling sad or unhappy, are experiencing relationship difficulties, family issues or work related stress. Perhaps you have experienced some sort of loss - a bereavement, the ending of a relationship or job. Or maybe you are struggling to deal with the impact of earlier life experiences or trauma which still need to be resolved.

People may seek therapy because they have reached a crisis point in their life and are struggling to cope on their own. Others make contact because they feel stuck or have become aware that they keep falling into unhelpful behaviour or thought patterns which prevent them from leading life to the full.

Sometimes, attempts to deal with things on your own just don't seem to work but it can feel difficult to seek help. Talking to a psychotherapist or counsellor who is trained to listen can be a source of comfort and support, can help you get a fresh perspective on your situation and gain greater awareness and understanding of the way you feel or behave. This in turn can enable you to make changes in your life and move forwards.

As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I don't adhere to one specific counselling model but draw from several approaches including those from psychodynamic, attachment, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), gestalt and body oriented theories.

Every client is unique and so I will adapt my way of working to what I believe might work best for you. I will also be interested to understand how you feel physically as well as emotionally, since our bodies often hold emotions which we have been unable to express, and may use relaxation techniques, imagery and mindfulness as ways of exploring and understanding what you are experiencing.

Although much of our work together may simply involve talking about what is happening currently in your life, it will undoubtedly be important to talk about things that have happened in your past since earlier life experiences can provide helpful clues as to why you might feel, think or act the way you do in the present.

The most important aspect of my approach is that we work in a way which feels comfortable for you and that you take things at a pace which feels right for you.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
