Profile
Welcome to my profile. I am an experienced person centred counsellor and supervisor and I would like to tell you a little more about myself and the way that I work.
You may be asking 'What is person centred therapy?' The person centred approach to therapy does not offer advice as such. It is based on the belief that all of us have within us the potential to live a more fulfilling and happier life, and that the best way to achieve this is by the individual exploring and tapping into their own inner resources. This is done by working with a therapist who can guide and encourage you to explore and find direction, whilst at the same time providing the professional support and expertise that you need. My work is based upon a depth of experience and knowledge gained in a variety of professional settings. I have worked successfully with people of all ages and with a wide and varied range of issues including anger management, abuse, bereavement, relationship issues, anxiety and depression.I feel that the counselling relationship is key to the success of therapy and I will offer you a safe and comfortable place to speak in confidence without being judged. I have also been trained in Brief Solution Focused Therapy. This approach is designed to avoid therapy being a long, drawn out process and offers focus and goals to the therapeutic process.
I have been counselling since 2001 and became a full time counsellor in 2005 when I made a career change, having worked as a local government officer for more years than I choose to remember! Most of my counselling experience has been in the N.H.S. (Primary Care and and Palliative Care). However, I have also worked in a local authority based service (family support) and in specialist bereavement services.
I would be happy to meet with you for a half hour session free of charge to answer any queries that you might have.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I qualified as a counsellor in 2003 (Advanced Diploma in Counselling) and as a supervisor in 2009 (Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision and Therapeutic Relationships).
I am a BACP Accredited counsellor and as such work within the BACP Ethical Framework.
