Counselling can be the opportunity to think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable without the fear of what others might think.
Making the decision to seek counselling is often a difficult one and usually arises at a time when you are feeling less able to deal with it. The aim of counselling is to give you the opportunity to explore your concerns and feelings, discover what might be the underlying causes and to clarify ways of living more effectively and to move towards a greater sense of well-being.
If you decide you are interested in having counselling you can contact me by telephone, mobile or email or please visit my website for further information. We can then arrange an initial meeting where you will be able to explore, in confidence any issue that is troubling you.
It is important to choose a counsellor that you feel comfortable with, I believe that the very nature of the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor enabling progress and healing.
My practice is based from my home address in Littleover, which is a separate, quiet purpose built counselling room to the rear of my house. Littleover is situated on the south side of Derby within one mile of the A38 and A50 and less than 15 minutes from the M1 at Nottingham.
Whatever your difficulties may be, you can be assured of a warm welcome and a safe and supportive setting in which to explore them.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, this means that my practice has been deemed to meet the standard for a competent, ethical and independent practitioner. My certificate number is 024807 this can be used to identify and check the Bacp Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I hold an up to date Background Screening enhanced certificate With the DBS.
After completing my initial counselling training, I have worked in the voluntary sector, refuges, women's agencies and a health clinic. I have also been approved by the Derby City Council as a counselling service provider a for parents and carers whilst funding was available. I have made appearances on Radio Derby and Capital FM to discuss relevant issues on specific mental health problems. I currently provide counselling for companies such as Bupa and Arriva working with a diverse range of backgrounds with different needs. I am also a regional counsellor for the Sporting Chance Clinic founded in 2000 by former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams MBE, working with addictions and destructive behaviors for professional and amateur sports people. Recently I was invited to work with individuals at the Dame Kelly HolmesTrust Project to help with depression. I also attend various workshops each year in order to ensure that my practice is kept up to date. Please see my website for this information which lists all the separate training courses and workshops undertaken.
I work with an Integrative approach, which means that I integrate ideas and insights drawn from different counselling models in order to respond appropriately to the needs of individual clients. This approach supports my philosophy that each person is unique and therefore no one approach suits all.
I am also a committee member of a community organisation called Zen, we are a group of community minded volunteers who arrange events on a monthly basis which are free to the community. Our non-profit organisation is based in Derby. Zen's mission is to create, nurture and sustain an impactful legacy for positive change and progressive hope with our local and global communities, by devising engaging participating and creative projects with a "make it happen" mentality. mewezen.com
