About me

You may be struggling to cope with issues that are preventing you from living a full and contented life and need some support. You may be feeling strong emotions such as anger, doubt, frustration, sadness, fear or guilt.
I provide a space to talk and a listening ear in a confidential and safe setting.

I am a warm and empathic counsellor and am trained to provide either short or long term Counselling. I have always been a good listener and realise these skills are vital to be a good counsellor.

I like to build a trusting relationship and learn how other people see the world in order to more fully understand their issues. I am able to be congruent in a warm and calm way and this has helped clients to put their trust in me.

Helping to clarify and reflect on issues in a non-judgemental way enables clients to overcome blockages and express themselves in a beneficial manner..
Finding words for feelings, some of which may have been stored up for many years, and saying them out loud in a safe and confidential setting can be a powerful and relieving experience.

Depression, relationship problems, anxiety, bereavement, abuse and addiction are just some of the issues I am able to help clients with on a regular basis.

Eating Disorders
Do you have issues with food, have disordered eating or think you may have an Eating Disorder such as Bulimia, Anorexia Nervosa or Binge Eating. Are you Overweight and find dieting doesnt work for you. You may have problems with weight and need some help.
We can use food to emotionally comfort us. I offer an individualised plan to look at behaviours, patterns, attitudes and habits around food. Improving self esteem and assertivenesss and making small positive changes can restore a balance and a more contented way of eating.

How It Works
The therapies i use are finely tuned to suit each client. You may want short -term ( 6 sessions) to explore issues establish patterns and look for a way to move forward in a positive and life changing way. Certain practical techniques may be suitable and simple exercises can be thought provoking.
You may wish to explore deeper issues from the past and look at behaviour and how it affects us now. Learning new things about ourselves can be a powerful tool for change. Longer term counselling may be appropriate for this.

New treatment for Eating Disorders
I am now offering clients with eating disorders an opportunity to have an extended session during which we look together at the issues involved and explore new ways of thinking and dealing with the crippling effects of this illness.
This has proven to be an effective way of ' breaking through ' and creating a new and positive way forward for many clients.
Please contact me to discuss how these 2-3 hr sessions work.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
