About me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist available for face to face appointments in Richmond and East Dulwich as well as Telephone and Online Counselling Sessions.

I work with adults, children, families and couples and use a range
of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (including Third Wave approaches; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy {ACT}, Mindfulness and Compassionate Focused Therapy), Psychodynamic Therapy and Schema Therapy. I create an individualised treatment programme for each of my patients based on what they need and feel comfortable and taking into consideration what is proven to bring the fastest and most long lasting relief for their particular difficulty.

I have over 21 years of experience and have held senior positions in the NHS and in Private Sector organisations. I am registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with The Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and as a Chartered Psychologist with The British Psychological Society (BPS).

I am experienced in helping people to resolve the majority of problems that cause emotional distress and discomfort including (but not limited to):

My Philosophy

There are always options, different ways of thinking about things that bring about different outcomes and opportunities. Sometimes these alternatives are hard to see, but with consideration, support and understanding we can always find them.

My Approach

I have been involved in the field of psychology for more years than I care to mention here but as a result I am highly skilled in a wide range of different models and techniques, specialising in CBT with a particular interest in third wave approaches. I appreciate the importance of following the evidence base and keeping up to date with the most effective approaches but believe it is easy to get carried away with this and forget that there is a person sitting front in of you. So I always start with where my patient is and what they are asking for from me. My approach is straightforward, use-able and always relevant.

My Motivation

I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories; I never take that privileged position for granted nor the opportunity to help someone to feel better about themselves and discover a more fulfilling life. One of my colleagues once described me as natural psychologist; I guess she was alluding to the fact that I feel at ease being a therapist, I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.

A Little More About Me

I am a terrible cook and have the equivalent of a library of unfinished books by my bed. I try to make the most of what is in front of me and believe that there is always something good that can be taken from an experience.

It may be possible to use your private health insurance to cover the cost or part of the cost of your appointments. Each healthcare provider have slightly different policies but most of them are happy for you to approach us directly in the first instance.

Some private healthcare companies require a referral from your GP in order to access your policy. GP’s are often happy to provide a referral following a phone consultation instead of a traditional face to face appointment in the surgery as it is more time efficient.

With the above a quick call to your healthcare provider should allow them clarify these details.

It is worth noting that not all policies will cover the full cost of your treatment. We will advise you of the availability of healthcare appointments, and any cost implications in your initial enquiry.

Some healthcare providers have fees which are different to our self funding rates detailed above. If these are less than our own rate we have to ask that the shortfall is made up by the patient. Please just remember to tell us who your provider is as soon as possible to avoid any confusion when booking.

Recent Testimonials

“I have been having Online CBT Counselling for about 9 months and it has made such a difference. I struggled for years with an eating disorder and depression and I really feel like I’ve got my life back. The online CBT Counselling programme fitted in with the long hours I work and it actually felt more supportive that other types of counselling I have tried because I had contact with my psychologist up to 3 times a week. I am so glad that I tried this approach and would recommend it to anyone who needs help sorting out a problem”.

– Lizzie (Richmond)

“I initially only agreed to couples counselling so my wife couldn’t accuse me of not trying but I have been pleasantly surprised by how it has helped us. Our psychologist didn’t take sides, didn’t judge and was able to identify what the problem was and help us to work out a solution in a relatively short space of time. I am pleased that we did this and would definitely recommend this service to other couples who are struggling to make things work.”

– Jonathan (Marylebone)

“Feelings of anxiety will always be part of a busy lifestyle, but in my experience, having a strong CBT counsellor to help get those harsher aspects is essential. This is what I have achieved with 20 sessions and will continue to build on.”

– Rebecca (London)

“I had a course of CBT Counselling and although it didn’t provide me with the quick fix miracle solution I was hoping for, it has made my problems feel more manageable”.

– Chris (Richmond)

“CBT Counselling is hard work, but I think it is worth putting in the effort”.

– David (London)

“For the first few CBT Counselling sessions I actually felt more anxious and thought about giving up, but I’m 10 sessions in now and things are starting to shift. It’s still isn’t plan sailing but I am hopeful that if I keep at it I will get there”.
