About me

I trained as a counsellor almost 30 years ago after many years as a health care professional.

I offer marriage / relationship counselling face to face, both one to one and couples. I also see young people and parents who have young children / teenagers with difficulties, as well as those who have experienced a bereavement.

I have a wealth of experience, having recently retired from an acute hospital where I had been a specialist oncology counsellor for over twenty years. My work during that time was helping individuals, their partners, children and other family members to discuss and manage their anguish and difficulties caused by a serious illness and  also to understand the wider implications for children when someone close is ill and dies

I am willing to make home visits for couple/ family counselling, locally ( Chelmsford area )should parents of young children not be able to arrange baby sitters.

I am available some evenings and weekends, as well as some occasional weekday periods.

I have had my own therapy for over 20 years and I could not imagine what my life would have been like had I not done this . Investigating our own life gives insight to others, beyond belief, and can change relationships immeasurably.

If I am the right person to work with you, I will explain what kind of counselling I can offer. If I can not help, then we can discuss other options.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a diagnostic radiographer over 40 years ago and this has been largely my core profession. I have worked as a social worker in an acute hospital and also in the community with vulnerable families.

I have recently retired from work as a counsellor in an acute hospital setting working with people who are experiencing a serious illness such as cancer. I also offer counselling to  family members who are affected by the trauma of illness including children and young people.

I have worked with those who are HIV positive and those who have been diagnosed with AIDS including their families and I am very experienced with those who have been bereaved.

I see people who have low self esteem and those who have been abused.

I also have experience of working with people who have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.

I am particualarly interested in relationship work and how early relationships affect our adult lives.

I belong to the BACP Register and I am accredited member of BACP

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
