Profile
Do you want to understand and find ways to manage the intense feelings of anger, sadness, depression or anxiety you are experiencing? Do you want to find ways to change the way you think and feel in yourself and in your experience of close relationships?
Does this lead to repeating negative patterns in your relationships and life choices?
You may have already tried to work it out through talking to friends and family or perhaps even reading, but its just not helping you?
Have you noticed that in trying to figure out why you are feeling this way, that you tend to go in circles and then feel frustrated?
Have you had a troubling experience that continues to cause you distress, depression, anxiety or anger management problems. The trigger may have been a trauma, a chronic health problem that gets you down, past emotional, physical or sexual abuse, a bereavement.
You may feel that you need help to learn how to regulate your emotions and find ways to self soothe.
Have you been told that you should just try to be more positive and move on but have not been able to.
Are you noticing a tendency to be very self critical and negative but would like this to change? Are you struggling with low self esteem?
Do you want someone you can talk to about your close relationship/s. Do you want to meet with your partner/ wife/ husband/ child or family to work through recurring problems and find some solutions together?
I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist of 20 years.
I have worked in the Social Care, Health and Education sectors and have a wide range of experience with individuals, couples, parents and children and families of different backgrounds.
I offer my experience in an open and transparent way, offering what fits for you.
I also enter into dialogue; listening carefully and asking clarifying questions, giving feedback and advice where appropriate and encouraging you to identify and use your own strengths and resources.
I believe in the individuals potential to grow and change and in our own tendency towards problem solving and making informed choices with help and support.
Relationships and our social networks can both challenge us the the core and enrich our identity and our sense of belonging. Understanding the impact of past and present relationships is an important part of finding new ways to be.
I would see my responsibility as a therapist as listening without negative judgement, providing a safe, confidential relationship in which to share your ups and downs and in encouraging aspects of yourself and your relationships that you want to strengthen.
I can offfer Specialist trauma services, with the use of EMDR, to anyone including those in the Emergency services who would like a more confidential service than one offered through work.
Depending on the nature of the trauma and your history, this can be effective between 5 and 12 sessions.
Or you may have a work related issue which you would rather not take to an in house counsellor.
I would offer telephone counselling under special circumstances and would hope to have payment for sessions ahead of the day and time for this.
