About me

I have appointments in the ST10 3HX area, DE4 5FY area also the Nottingham Area.

I am a member of the BACP. I graduated from Nottingham University with a BA in Humanistic Counselling.

As a counsellor for the charity MIND, I have worked with a numerous collection of clientele: Depression/suicide/schizophrenia/relationships.

The experience has shown me how important it is to work at the clients pace and accept you as the individual, working with you as a person, in order for you to achieve your goals.

Below are some outlines of the way I as a counsellor have seen issues presented by clients.

ABUSE

Can lead to a number of issues from low self-esteem to major depression, any form of abuse will affect each of us differently, some people can carry this abuse around for years, even a life time. Coping with the effects together in a therapeutic setting can lead to a fuller life.

ADDICTIONS

These issues take time and support to gain control, so you can improve your situation. (Find and keep your own place) This process is very personal, so I tailor the sessions to suit your personality.

For some client's this can take years of therapy and others months.

ANGER

Over the last year there has been an increase in the client's presenting with issues of anger, managing anger is a tough subject for the client as part of the process involves owning the anger. The usual thing is I am angry because of him or her or them. This passes the responsibility of being angry onto someone else. Not owning the emotion yourself.

RELATIONSHIPS/ couples counselling

Working on your relationship?

Couples can find somewhere to gain more understanding of their relationship and needs in a safe caring environment.

Steve is also able to offer counselling in anger management, addiction, child birth and life changing issues.

Bullying

The feeling of not wanting to return to the environment which the bullying has taken place, looking at how we can stop this happening, making you feel more confident in this area of life has a positive reaction to the rest of life for  this person.

Gender Identity

Working with someone who is willing to listen to:-

how you see yourself?

what this means for you?

The complexity involved in any relationship.

Work related stress

In these times of uncertainty the pressures of work can become so big that we cannot think of anything else, effecting home and social life, you feel isolated or the family feel you are distant.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

CLIENT'S TESTIMONY
I have been receiving counselling through Mind for just about 2 years. I was referred by my health visitor after she raised some concern following my second EPSN results.

My initial sessions were about dealing with my emotional state following the birth of my first child, building confidence in my own abilities, talking about the trauma of her birth and through this beginning to work on other deeper issues.

At the time as a coping mechanism i was experiencing a resurgence of my OCD issues, Through our numerous sessions this gradually faded away as my confidence started to grow and as i relaxed within myself.

The time I have spent with Steve during our sessions has been an invaluable journey of discovery. I have faced many different issues which have had an immense affect on my life. I have for most of my life felt responsible for so many things and have been blamed for so much. To begin to feel free of some of these has been a life changing experience for me and one which we continue to work on.
