Profile

My name is Mark O’Leary and I offer a safe, friendly, professional and confidential counselling/psychotherapy/supervision service in Lincolnshire.

My primary training has been in transactional analysis psychotherapy, but I have always been curious about and eager to learn from other approaches and theories. Therefore when I am asked to describe myself as a counsellor or psychotherapist I usually state that my core model is transactional analysis, but within my practice I use an array of techniques and theories that I have learnt from. These include cognitive behavioural therapy, gestalt as well as psychodynamic and person centred approaches.

I believe this gives me the flexibility to work in a way that is cognitive behavioural and/or relational dependant on the needs and wishes of the client.

I also offer a supervision service for trainee or qualified counsellors and psychotherapists.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis) and as such I am bound to and abide by their codes of ethics and practice, I always make sure I exceed the number of recommended CPD (Core Professional Development) hours I am expected to undertake each year. I am fully insured to work as a psychotherapist/counsellor and supervisor.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I have completed four years of training at a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) accredited training centre. I am a current member (MBACP) of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) as well as being a member of the ITA (Institute of Transactional Analysis).

After studying psychology at the University of Birmingham I started work at a Therapeutic Community in Birmingham, where I have worked as a psychotherapist with people suffering from severe mental health issues. I have a wide experience of working with people suffering from various personality disorders, schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder.

I have also facilitated many different therapy groups outside of my work in the therapeutic community as well as offering a one to one service originally in Birmingham and more recently within my private practice in Lincoln. I have also started working two days a week at a local college teaching counselling skills at various levels.

I provide individual and group supervision for counsellors and psychotherapists. I enjoy the supervision process greatly and believe it to be a vital part of any counsellor or psychotherapists practice. I believe it also gives one an amazing opportunity for both professional and personal growth and development. Although there is no requirement for it I am attending a Diploma in Supervision course at a training centre in Nottingham which will enhance my skills in this area.

    Further Information

The first session with me is always free. I see it more as a ‘get to know you’ meeting where you can come along and see whether counselling is for you. It also gives you an opportunity to find out if I am the right counsellor for you. After this first session you will then be free to make further appointments or not.

One of the things I will do in this session is make sure that I am the right kind of counsellor to help you achieve your aims. I will only agree to see you and take money from you if I believe I can help you. I do not take on clients solely for financial gain.
