Welcome to my Counselling Directory Profile;
Hello , I am an integrative counsellor and I work with individuals, including teenage children as well as couples with relationship issues. Integrative means I do not have only one way of working. My belief is that you, the client, determine the approach.
At times we can feel there are no choices left to us;at least give talking therapy a chance when you feel like this.There are always choices for us, it may not seem like there are but I can help to shine a light on where those choices are.
Our mental health is so important perhaps more than what we believe. While keeping fit physically is often raised as something we must do, however, to ignore how we feel and what we keep inside, whether anger, frustration or sadness may adversely affect our mental health.
Anxiety can wear us down worrying about all those 'what if' rhetorical questions we ask ourselves. Depression and anxiety sometimes occur together causing someone great psychological pain.
I can work with you on these, and other issues to shine a light on the reasons for them and help you through the process.
Anger is an emotion that may have damaging effects on you and your relationship. We can work together to understand why it happens so much and hopefully reach a point where you respond to events rather than react.
How do we respond to events in our childhood or adult life that have left a shadow that often comes back to us? I can help you work through these traumatic memories and the pain they still cause.
It may be anxiety, depression, loss of someone you love, low confidence and low self-esteem that has brought you to my site.
Another reason is about a relationship that may have been difficult or has reached a point where you need to talk through your wants and needs, because sometimes we lose the way about what we want and need, indeed we change over time. Working together we can find a way to resolve your difficulties.
.Joyce Vissell made such a meaningful statement when she said “An unresolved issue will be like a cancer with the potential to spread into other areas of your relationship, eroding the joy, lightness, love and beauty.”
Shannon L Alder writes, “Before you can live a part of you has to die. You have to let go of what could have been, how you should have acted and what you wish you would have said differently. You have to accept that you can’t change the past experiences, opinions of others at that moment in time or outcomes from their choices or yours. Counselling offers you that place to reflect and change and I can help you along this journey.
How I work
What is said in the counselling room is confidential and remains in a sense within the room. I have regular supervision but I do not divulge identities. The supervision process allows a supervisor to explore and often suggest useful ideas and techniques.
Yes, counselling is 'talking therapy' but it is carried out with great attention to you, the client, where you will not be judged in any way, where you will be listened to and where light may be shed on your issue.
I complement Talking Therapy with Thought Field Therapy (TFT) for issues such as anxiety. Like acupuncture, this technique utilises the meridian pathways in the body, unlike acupuncture, it does not involve intrusive needles, rather tapping at certain points on the body.
