My aim is to work with you to deal effectively with the challenges and crises that impact on the quality of your life. This is the core of resilience and well-being. In doing this you will improve the quality of your life.
I earnestly believes that each person presents with a unique set of characteristics and life experiences. Therefore no single method can satisfy the therapeutic needs of all clients. For this reason I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist, utilising both psychodynamic and humanistic therapeutic approaches, so that each person will receive unique clinical care and the therapeutic process which closely reflects their personality and their individual needs. Where appropriate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR is offered.
I am a warm, empathic professional and very experienced psychotherapist, counsellor, and supervisor. I provide one to one individual counselling and psychotherapy. This may be long or short term depending on your needs. I work with people facing emotional challenges arising from developmental, attachment and life experiences e.g. anxiety, negative self beliefs, depression, relationship issues, bullying, trauma and bereavement. My specialist area is working with the aftermath of life traumas, including events that some might consider minor traumas and with ongoing critical life situations. .
I am an EMDR Europe Approved EMDR Practitioner and am therefore able to utilise EMDR which has been proven to be an incredibly effective intervention for working with issues deriving from developmental, challenging or traumatic experiences. These experiences often result in, for example, a sense of confusion, depression and anxiety. EMDR is equally effective whether the event is a small or major trauma - what is important is the individual's perception of the experience/s. EMDR is only used when appropriate and when indicated by your presenting problem. Before EMDR is used the full process is explained to you so that you understand what EMDR is and why this is recommended for you.
EMDR is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the treatment of choice for PTSD and related problems derived from particularly challenging life event or events. I am a full Accredited Practitioner approved by the EMDR Association - UK and Ireland.
As a result of evidence of expertise, experience and recommendation I am also on the list of approved Welfare Consultants for the Police Firearms Officers Association (PFOA).
I am able to offer counselling for couples who wish to have a better understanding of the difficulties in their relationship and to resolve those problems which get in the way of sharing a happy relationship.
In all cases, your initial session is a preliminary meeting at which time we will discuss your situation and together we will establish the best way to proceed - for your benefit.
You will be seen in independent, private premises which offer a warm, confidential, respectful and contained environment. I adhere to the Code Of Practice of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists and also that of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
In accordance with ethical and legal requirements for professional practice, I have regular clinical supervision for my clinical work and maintain my professional standards by participating in ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor and therefore am able to provide clinical supervision for practicing therapists.
I will agree to using SKYPE as a method of online communication in certain circumstances.
