Profile

I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist, counsellor, and supervisor providing individual long and short term counselling and psychotherapy. I work with relationship issues, couples and life challenges arising from developmental and life experiences e.g. trauma and bereavement.
I also provide clinical supervision and couples counselling.
I work from a client focused perspective believing that each person presents with a unique set of characteristics and issues. No one approach can satisfy the therapeutic needs of all clients. For this reason I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist so that each person will receive the clinical care and the therapeutic process which closely reflects their personality and their needs.

I also utilise EMDR which is an incredably effective intervention for working with issues related to the individual's experience of trauma. EMDR is equally effective whether the event is perceived as a small or major trauma - what is important is the individual's experience. EMDR is only used when appropriate and when indicated by the presenting problem. EMDR is recommended by NICE as the treatment of choice for PTSD and related problems derived from a particularly challenging life event or events.

The initial clinical session is a preliminary meeting to establish whether we are able to work together for the benefit of you, the client.

I use private premises which offers a warm, confidential, respectful and contained environment. I adhere to the Code Of Practice of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists and also that of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

In accordance with ethical and legal requirements for professional practice, I have regular clinical supervision for my clinical work.

Following my initial training as a general and psychiatric Nurse I worked in a range of clinical and educational roles at Guys Hospital, in Primary Health Care and then in education.
Later as a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, I managed: a Primary Care Counselling Service, the counselling service at a Further Education College and a very successful private practice. I lectured in counselling for eight years, contributed to the development of a Foundation Degree in Counselling and made and produced counselling training DVDs and training materials.
I have extensive experience supervising individuals and teams and have published material and presented workshops. The most recent being on EMDR.
I currently work as the Director of Qualifications Development for the specialist awarding body for counselling.
