Individual psychotherapy - Couples/relationship therapy - Psychosexual therapy
I offer individual and couples counselling and have many years of experience working with clients on a wide range of issues; I am also a qualified sex therapist. I am a member of the BACP (MBACP) and College of Sex and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and abide by those code of ethics. I have completed both an MA, Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy and Diploma in Advanced Couples Therapy.
Working with a qualified therapist can help you gain insight and control, move forward and grow. Together we can work towards solutions when you feel stuck, unhappy or are in crisis or simply want to explore an issue in your life.
I have trained with the Couples Institute (USA) for one year under its founder Dr Ellyn Bader Phd author of 'In Quest For The Mythical Mate' and 'Tell Me No Lies'. The institute takes a developmental approach to relationship work drawing on different therapeutic approaches. I have been with the institute for a number of years and now train at the advanced level.
In addition, I work as a Clinical Supervisor offering supervision to psychotherapists and counsellors, whether in training or qualified and as required by their professional body. I hope to add value to and support therapists professional development. If you are a counsellor or psychotherapist looking for supervision, please feel free to contact me. I supervise therapists privately, at the mental health charity MIND and trainee counsellors at the University of East London. As well as general supervision, I can offer supervision to counsellors and therapists working with couples, clients with relationship diversity and psychosexual issues.
I also teach students and qualified therapists, teaching at the University of East London and as a faculty member on post-graduate London Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy.
I have experience working within the NHS and charitable organisations as a psychotherapist and psychosexual/relationship therapist including Whipps Cross University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminister Hospital (56 Dean Street sexual health clinic).
I am a qualified teacher and teach and supervise on the University of East London's Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the London Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy. Training and teaching experience include:
Faculty member - couples therapy teacher: London Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy
Resilience, stress, emotional well-being, crisis and psychosocial support: Red Cross
Tutor, lecturer, supervisor: Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, University of East London
Bereavement: Foreign and Commonwealth Office
I have two practice locations:
London EC2: Located in the heart of the City of London and well served by public transport. Stations nearby include Old Street and Shoreditch (7 mins), Liverpool Street and Moorgate (10 mins). The area is well served by public transport and in easy reach of Hoxton, Hackney, Islington, Farringdon, Barbican, Aldgate, Kings Cross and the West End.
Kent CT5: On the north Kent coast in Whitstable and just over an hours drive or rail journey from London.
I am located just a 5 minutes walk from Whitstable train station, the harbour and town centre. There is dedicated parking if coming by car. Whitstable is well served by local buses, rail and road and so is easily accessible from Canterbury, Herne Bay, Faversham and the rest of Kent.
Intensive couples work in Kent: I also offer 2 to 3 hour couple therapy sessions (including weekends) where you and your partner can attend every few months so you can combine a seaside break exploring this beautiful part of England has to offer after exploring your relationship in safe and relaxed space.
I take an integrative approach that incorporates a number of therapeutic schools of thought, including humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in a therapeutic plan designed to meet your needs. The therapeutic relationship is boundaried, confidential and non-judgmental and is the basis from which I will facilitate a process for you to explore your situation and bring about change if necessary. This is done through support, empathy, challenge, analysis and interpretation. This may involve looking at the impact of your past and present circumstances. The process will increase your awareness of, and responsibility for your situation, which will give you choice and enable you to shift your situation while working through any defences and resistance to change. You will be free to explore thoughts and feelings, positive or negative, and use the relationship to explore your authentic self without danger of rejection from myself.
