Profile
As a B.A.C.P Accredited Psychodynamic counsellor with many years of counselling experience, I work with clients to facilitate insight and understanding whilst looking at both the past and the present.
Alongside significant experience of working for a mental health charity; a P.C.T. funded counselling service, I also have many years experience working in private practice.
My approach is Psychodynamic which takes the premise that we unconsciously repeat patterns of relating from our past in our present lives. Often these patterns of relating can be subtle or unknown which can make it difficult to work them out on our own. Perhaps you have spent years trying to work out why you behave in a certain way or feel the way you do and still have a sense of not living your life fully or understanding how your relationships function. Maybe you have found yourself at a crisis point or have recently experienced a sudden loss and can't seem to move on.
When you take the step and make an appointment for an initial assessment, it will be possible at this time for you to tell me about yourself, your life and your difficulties and to discuss the issues that led you to take this step.
Sessions are offered in a safe and confidential space where you can relate to me as your counsellor. You will have the opportunity to talk as freely as you can during sessions and over time, as your thoughts, anxieties and feelings become more conscious, meaning will be able to be given to the deep-rooted thoughts and emotions that may be causing you distress.
Freud called this therapy 'the talking cure' and the name still applies.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Post Grad. Dip. in Counselling Hertfordshire University- July 2004
I am a qualified and registered Psychodynamic Counsellor with many years experience working for a mental health charity; a P.C.T funded counselling service, working with a diverse client group in both the long and short term service. I also have a significant number of years of working in private practice.
I mainly work with individuals on a longer term open-ended basis in private practice, with at least one session per week. This involves looking in depth at your difficulties and their underlying deep-rooted causes.I also offer short-term counselling contracts.
My personal belief is that by working with what a client brings and within a certain approach, it will become clear which way of working is most appropriate to that person at that specific time.It can decided together whether open ended or short term counselling is most suitable at this time.
