About me

Hi, I'm Caroline, a qualified, accredited person-centred counsellor for 15 years and more recently a trauma counsellor.  I've also been a registered nurse for 28 years.

Picking up the phone to a counsellor can be a daunting process. I wish to reassure you I understand this and hope to offer you a sensitive, non judgmental environment to enable you to work through whatever has brought you to counselling.

I am here to listen, really get to understand you and your experience and be very open and honest with you. This can be very helpful and insightful sometimes.  We all can get a bit 'lost' along the way and my hope is by offering all that I can, counselling will help you with this.

My background is person centred counselling, which is a therapeutical approach to enable you, with the right conditions of empathy, non judgmentalism and openness, to gain understanding, space to process thoughts and feelings.

Recently I have trained in trauma focused therapy as well as a specific trauma therapy approach called EMDR which helps people with PTSD, complex and single event trauma. It also helps with anxiety and depression.

There are many reasons why someone may come to counselling. Some may be very clear about what the issues are, whilst others may have a sense that something doesn't feel quite right, but don't know why. They may be stuck with life, troubled by the past, overwhelmed, angry all the time, feel they are struggling with life or suicidal. Some people may want to focus specifically on on their own personal or professional development for the future.

To date I have worked in an NHS adult counselling service, a Glasgow secondary school offering counselling and now privately.

My experience as a nurse has led me to specialise in sexual health, sexuality, LGBTQI issues. I also worked with public health throughout the COVID pandemic so am fully aware of the stresses and traumas some people have gone through. I currently work at a university as a nurse lecturer, working closely with students, giving me an insight into some of the challenges they can face.

I offer confidential 50 minute sessions for individuals. A 30 minute reduced rate face to face session or a free 30 minute telephone session can be arranged to establish if counselling is something you wish to continue and to offer you the chance to ask any questions. It enables us to decide if we are the right fit, as the therapeutic relationship is key to progress.

I'm experienced in working with male and female adults and young people.  At present I am working only with 18 year olds and over.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their ethical framework for good practice.

I work face to face in therapy rooms in South Lanarkshire and Glasgow, but also offer online via zoom and telephone sessions.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
