Profile

I offer individual counselling and have a practice at my home in Esher, near the High street and with easy access for the A3. I have worked with a wide range of difficulties and clients, both within the NHS as well as from the private sector. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment where we can work with whatever is troubling you.

I am trained as a Counselling Psychologist which means that I use psychological theories to guide my practise, but believe that each person’s experience is unique and therefore the type of counselling used will vary. Sometimes it might be difficult to know what the ‘problem’ is and we will then work together to gain a better understanding of the difficult thoughts and feelings you may have. By developing a further awareness of ourselves, it is possible to begin to make changes or adjustments in life.

At other times, clients may wish to work on specific difficulties and like help with finding coping strategies and solutions for which I will use a more directive counselling technique such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

For traumatic memories, post-traumatic stress, phobias and several anxiety disorders, I use EMDR techniques. EMDR facilitates and mobilises the body’s natural self-healing facilities which have, for certain reasons, become interrupted. This is done by identifying when the initial trauma or phobia occurred and by identifying the present triggers. By doing so the person's natural ability to process traumatic experiences and phobias is reactivated. EMDR is capable of producing rapid results, often where other therapies has failed.
