Profile

I am a professional qualified and registered therapist based in Colyton, East Devon. I also work in consulting rooms in Princesshay and Denmark Road, Exeter, in Bishopsteignton and in the Chiropractic Health Centre in Axminster.

I offer a person centered approach to counselling. Person centred counselling provides individuals with the time and space to explore and discuss the issues which may be troubling them. During sessions with me you will be free to explore your thoughts and feelings, both positive and negative without the danger of rejection or condemnation.

I also offer personal and professional life coaching.

I will provide you with a safe, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental environment. My aim is to help my clients to know themselves, to develop and grow in their own way, to become the person that they 'really' are independent of the pressure of others.

Many people experience emotional difficulties at some point in their lives. I offer individuals of all ages short and long term work on issues such as: Family difficulties, Personal development, Stress/Anxiety, Depression, Loss & Bereavement, Self esteem and Confidence issues, Teenage issues, Questions about Personal Identity, Unresolved Issues from the Past and Traumatic Experiences.

I try to offer prospective clients appointments quickly, usually within a few days. I always suggest that we have an initial appointment so that you, the client can be sure you feel comfortable with me and equally, I can be reasonably sure that what I am able to offer matches up with what you want.

I also offer telephone and on-line counselling, please contact me if you would like more information about these services.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I trained at Exeter University achieving a Certificate in Counselling in 1997. In 1998 I went on to gain an RSA Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork Skills and an Advanced Diploma in Person-Centered Counselling.

I am a member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP and a Member of the Association for Independent Practitioners. These professional bodies ensure a strict code of ethics and the highest standards of practice and confidentiality. I abide by their code of ethics and good practice.

I am also trained to work with survivors of abuse.

My past years experience working in private practice and the voluntary sector has taught me the importance of approaching each client as a unique individual.

  • Fees

My fee for regular weekly 50 minutes sessions for an individual is £30 in Colyton and £35 in Exeter & Axminster. The fee is £40 in Bishopsteignton. However, I do keep a number of reduced fees sessions for those on a low income.

Traditionally counsellors see clients once a week for 50 minutes to an hour and most of my clients opt for this arrangement. However, some clients prefer a session to be longer, whilst for others an hour is too long and they prefer to negotiated something shorter.

Some clients value seeing their counsellor at a fixed time on a fixed day each week. However, for people who work shifts or find that their lifestyle makes it difficult to maintain such a pattern, I am happy to make arrangements which are mutually convenient.

My work ranges from a few sessions (sometimes called brief counselling) too a much longer term counselling relationship. I do not have fixed ideas about this and am happy that my clients decide what is most appropriate for them.

    Further Information

Many people feel a certain amount of anxiety when seeking therapeutic help and it may be difficult for you to make that first telephone call or send the first email, please don't worry, I will do all that I can to put you at your ease and will be happy to explain how I work. Please remember I offer confidential support.

It may be useful to think of our first appointment more as an opportunity to meet each other and to explore how counselling might help. There is no commitment to ongoing therapy at this stage. If you do decide that you would like to continue working with me, we would then agree on a regular time and day which is convenient to us both.
