About me

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Psychologist and Counsellor based close to the City of Canterbury, Kent. Providing both Short-term and Long-term Psychotherapy, and Counselling for adults. I also offer Clinical Supervision for Psychotherapists, Counsellors (including Trainees and students) and other Health Professionals.

APPROACH AND TRAINING
My approach to Psychotherapy is to provide flexible, realistic and individualized therapy in a warm and confidential setting.

My training is ‘Psychoanalytic’, and draws on many theoretical and evidence based therapeutic models - from classical to Freudian to more modern Object Relations and Attachment Theory. I also draw on and integrate the understanding of Biology and Social Psychology. This helps to provide a realistic, adaptable and flexible approach to developing a respectful working relationship and understanding of each individual person, and the numerous factors that influence our lives.

It is important to work collaboratively with people, in a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space; to look for understanding and work towards developing ‘healthy’ and useful defences in our psychological world.
Psychotherapy often focuses on difficulties in relationships, both in the past and present. Therapeutic exploration discovers how relationships may have been shaped by our early experiences and important people in our lives. Where there may have been unhappy times in early experiences, sometimes these have an unwanted and negative impact on our current lives – psychotherapy can often help with this, by strengthening our inner world, and finding new ways of dealing with life’s challenges.
