I am a fully qualified integrative psychotherapist with 16 years Of experience. In my practice in Maidencombe, I offer a confidential and reflective space for you to explore the emotional and psychological difficulties that may have arisen in your life. Experiences of stress, grief, anxiety, relationship breakdown can become very distressing. Whether the issue be current, or have historical roots, through self-reflection and self-exploration, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the way others appear to us and we to them. We may even begin to recognise fixed patterns of relating and behaving, identify defence mechanisms and frustrating cyclical patterns that get in the way of the spontaneity and authenticity we seek.
I know that talking to stranger can be quite daunting but it does provide a safe, confidential, non-judgmental and nurturing setting for you to be heard. We might feel stuck, helpless or distressed, but change is possible and some people find just a few sessions helpful and growthful.
Our initial contact, whether over the phone, text or by email, is an opportunity for you to ask me questions and tell me a little about what is going on for you. We can then make an appointment so that we can assess whether we are a good 'fit'. In this first session of 60 minutes, you will do much of the talking and I will listen carefully, assessing how I can help you. If we then both decide that we want to work together, we will then find a regular weekly slot to suit us both. I often recommend we work together for a few weeks and then review whether therapy is helpful. You can expect to make great headway in those first weeks and may already experience the change you desire. Or, you may choose to deepen your exploration by having a longterm weekly slot at a reduced rate. Whatever your choice, you matter and our work is confidential.
I am an "Integrative" psychotherapist which means that having trained in different types of therapy, I can draw on and integrate different models and resources in order to match the very specific needs of each person.
The word "integrative" also refers to the desired outcome: enabling a person to feel whole, grounded and at peace, and in control of all their parts, in relationships, behaviourally and emotionally.
As to my professional background, I have many years of varied experience with trainee counsellors as well as in the NHS as a therapist where I am currently employed part-time. I also work as a supervisor and trainer, and have run a private psychotherapy practice since 1999. I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, abide by a professional Code of Ethics and maintain a valid DBS check. My own training has been extensive and is ongoing. It has included different modalities, including Integrative Psychotherapy, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis (TA), EMDR, NLP. Motivational Interviewing, Group Analysis. I also design and deliver training myself.
