Simon Arthur-Smith MBACP
Profile
I am committed to providing effective counselling in a safe, confidential & totally non-judgmental environment. I offer a FREE initial consultation, so that you can meet me and decide, without obligation, whether I am the right counsellor for you.
I work one-to-one with individuals either on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to improve your quality of life and live life more fully.
I have practice rooms in two locations; one in Brighton and one in Hove. My Brighton practice is close to The Level, near the junction of Lewes Road and Elm Grove (Hanover area). My Hove practice is very close to Hove railway station (Wilbury Avenue).
On-street parking is generally readily available in both locations: the streets near my Brighton practice have no Pay & Display or resident's parking bay restrictions. Free on-street parking is available five-minutes walk from my Hove practice, whilst Pay & Display bays are readily available in the immediate vicinity of the practice. Both locations are well-served by public transport.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling awarded by the University of Brighton. This diploma is formally accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I also hold a Certificate in Duo-Counselling (an Integrative model of counselling couples & families, where the counsellor works either as an individual therapist, or works together with a colleague as a 'duo').
Additionally, I have also undergone formal training in drug and alcohol dependency counselling from a recognised organisation specialising in work in this field.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.
I am experienced in working with people with low self-esteem (low self-confidence), depression, anxiety, issues arising from bereavement, relationship issues, drug addiction and issues relating to sexuality.
In addition to my counselling qualifications and experience, I have a Masters degree in Business Administration (City University Business School, London) and a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from the University of Oxford, and worked in the advertising and insurance industries before becoming a counsellor.

Fees
Counselling sessions held on weekdays between 9am and 6pm cost £38 (or £36 if six - or more - sessions are pre-paid in advance). Sessions in the evenings (after 6pm) cost £45 (or £42.50 if six or more sessions are pre-paid in advance).
Sessions last for one hour - this is 15% longer than the sessions many counsellors offer (typically others' sessions are 50-minutes in duration) - meaning that five sessions with me is equivalent to six sessions with many other counsellors. This makes the sessions I offer more cost effective and time effective for you.
I will consider sessions of longer than one hour if that is your wish.
Further Information
My counselling approach is strongly informed by the humanistic school of psychotherapy pioneered by Carl Rogers (1902-1987). In essence, the Rogerian "person-centred" psychotherapeutic approach is that you, the counselling client, have all the answers to the problems in your life within you and that these answers can be unlocked by you with the help of an effective counsellor who really listens and who is empathic, real and totally non-judgmental.
I am experienced in working with people with low self-esteem (low self-confidence), depression, anxiety, issues arising from bereavement, relationship issues, drug addiction and issues relating to sexuality.
