Profile

As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, I provide a quiet, non judgemental and confidential space in which we can explore the issues which concern you.

Sometimes it helps to be listened to, sometimes it is important to understand why things are the way they are.  You may feel 'stuck' and not know how to deal with a difficult issue. It could be that you are having difficulties with relationships with other people. You may have suffered a loss that you can't adjust to. Or, you may be unhappy for no apparent reason.

 Low-self esteem, relationship issues, bullying, abusive relationships, anger, anxiety - these are the most frequent types of issues I encounter in my work.

Listening is a fundamental part of counselling and psychotherapy, and I will listen to you; actively listen, giving feedback from time to time, guiding you to explore the problem you bring, allowing you to come to a new understanding of what is happening to you and why. There will be no rush, you can go at your own pace.

Counselling and pyschotherapy offer the opportunity to explore your past experiences and how they may be impacting on how your life is now. It may be that there is a repeating pattern of experience that has its roots in your early years. Whatever is back there can't be taken away, but some light might be shone on it and some understanding be found, that helps you to live in an easier way.

I won't offer you advice but I will help you to make decisions or discover what is underneath what is happening to you for yourself.

I offer long and short term counselling for couples, individual adults, adolescents and children in Cullompton and in Exeter, Devon.

For those new to the area, Cullompton is a short drive from Tiverton, Wellington, Broadclyst, and Exeter, and within easy reach from Crediton and Honiton and Taunton.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

* BACP Accredited Counsellor
* Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
* Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents
* I have undertaken training towards a Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
* Couple Counselling training
* Workshops in Solution Focussed Brief Therapy

Before moving to the South West, I practised as a Homeopath in the West Midlands for 12 years. That work gave me insight into the relationship between emotion and illness. My counselling training enhanced my ability to work as a Homeopath and vice versa. Since moving to Devon, I no longer work as a Homeopath, choosing, instead, to direct my energy to my counselling and psychotherapy work.

I am not trained as an art therapist, however, I do occasionally offer for clients to work with art materials.  I strongly promote any creative work that clients may use in their personal lives and am happy to explore that in the counselling work.
