Profile

I use various supportive skills helping people identify and understand their unmet needs, empowering them to develop their own resources, so they are better equipped to resolve their current problems and deal with any difficult life events that may arise in the future.

Effective therapy always depends on how attuned the therapist is to the client and for that reason I offer a 15 minute introduction for £10 if you wish to establish there is an appropriate rapport before you commit to a full counselling session.

I trained as a Human Givens Therapist in 2007 and find this innovative bespoke approach to be very effective -  most people can be helped in 4 to 6 sessions, sometimes less.  See www.hgi.org.uk for further information including Research/Evidence.

Many problems such as excessive anxiety, anger, depression, low self esteem and relationship issues may be related to past events and there are specific techniques which are usually very effective particularly for panic attacks, effects of childhod abuse and PTSD.  Enabling people to leave the past behind (if relevant) is part of the process which helps them clarify what they want to achieve, as well as giving them the confidence to do whatever is needed.

Veterans from the Armed Forces suffering with PTSD can be helped free of charge using trauma focused therapy approved by NICE - see www.ptsdresolution.org. Sufferers do not have to discuss in detail the events which caused the symptoms and evidence has shown this treatment to be effective after a few sessions in 80% of cases.

COUPLES COUNSELLING

The ideal couple support and help each other to grow and reach their full potential and if this is not happening one or both usually become unhappy with the relationship.  Current research suggests there are differences between the male and female brain which affect how we think, respond and communicate. These differences often cause misunderstandings and developing a deeper appreciation of each others' needs is usually very effective, helping to create a constructive dialogue, whereby problems can be discussed and resolved.

BACKGROUND

After training as a Registered Nurse I travelled and worked in America and Australia and have always been interested in the connection between physical, emotional and social well being.  On returning to England I qualifed in Occupational Health working in a corporate environment, advising employees on physical and emotional health. running training workshops for managers on self development and helping them with stress/work/life balance in an increasingly pressured work environment.

Counselling has always been a major part of my role and in 2007 my placement as a counsellor for MIND involved helping many people with a wide range of problems, using the CORE method to evaluate effectiveness.

I currently work part time in palliative care and for the CRUSE bereavement service. My private practice is in Shepperton - approx.20 mins drive from Richmond and 5 mins from the M3 Jctn 1.  Parking available.
Nearest BR station is Upper Halliford - Waterloo to Shepperton line.
