If you have a physical illness then knowing where to go for help can be fairly straight forward, like seeing your GP. However, it's not always as simple when the problem is emotional or psychological. For example many people are unsure what the difference is between a psychologist, counsellor, psychoanalyst, psychiatrist or psychotherapist. The situation can become even more complicated when such professionals describe what therapy they offer like person-centered, psychodynamic, CBT and so on.
Answers to these questions may be important but just as critical is how you feel understood, listened to and feel comfortable with the professional that you may end up spending many hours sitting alongside. I'm David Chandler and Lifecipher Counselling is my business. I believe that it is important that you have the opportunity to dip your toe in the water before setting out on a journey that might be as difficult and challenging as any mountain climb. That's why I offer a free 30 minute session to anyone who wants to take the first step in seeking help for their problem. If I don't think I can be of assistance I'll say so and I might even be able to suggest someone else who could be an alternative option. David Chandler is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor. He is also the CEO of Lifecipher Ltd.
Lifecipher Counselling is the name of that part of the business which operates from consulting room/offices based close to the centre of the old market town of Buckingham.
David Chandler is the main practitioner/therapist and as such manages and runs the counselling psychology consultancy service, Lifecipher Limited of which Lifecipher Counselling is a part. The company was first established in 1994 and since that time has been engaged in providing counselling and psychological based services to individuals, groups, non-profit organizations and corporate bodies.

David Chandler qualified as a Chartered Psychologist in 1993 and has been working in the counselling field since 1986. He has seen many hundreds of clients during this time and has extensive experience in a wide and diverse range of areas that cause emotional and psycho/physiological distress.

Additional Services - EMDR
EMDR Trauma Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment is an additional therapeutic intervention that is offered by Lifecipher Counselling Services.
EMDR is acknowledged by NICE (March 2005) as an effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). First developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in 1987 it has become increasingly used, not only for trauma, but also anxiety, panic disorders, pain, sexual dysfunction and a wide range of experientially based disorders.
Fees
The company aims to provide its professional services at reasonable rates as we try to minimize our overhead costs as much as possible.
In addition a 1/2 HOUR CONSULTATION SESSION IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE to all new counselling clients that request it.
Standard Charges
COUNSELLING:
From £40 per session for individual clients. AXA-PPP and BUPA clients accepted (subject to certain referral criteria). Those on low income or who are unemployed may receive a discount subject to a pre-assessment discussion.
SUPERVISION:
From £45 per session. Trainee counsellors and therapists currently not fully employed or working as volunteers may receive a discount subject to negotiation and discussion.
COUNSELLING AND WORKPLACE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSULTANCY:
From £350 per half-day plus expenses.
Further Information
Consultation times are arranged to best suit our clients whenever possible. Daytime, evening and occassional weekened appointments are available.
It is our aim to try and organise first appointments as quickly as possible hopefully within 24 hours of being contacted.
PLEASE NOTE THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY LIFECIPHER COUNSELLING ARE ONLY FOR ADULTS OVER THE AGE OF 18.
**UPDATE**
The Health Professionals Council (HPC) has in July 09 taken over the responsibility for regulating pychologists. Only those psychologists now registered with the HPC can use the protected titles of "Counselling Psychologist", Registered Psychologist" and "Practitioner Psychologist".
