I offer integrative face-to-face and telephone counselling in the centre of Cheltenham.
My aim is to support my clients through current and past issues in a non-judgemental and respectful way.
I believe that counselling offers an opportunity to be supported in a safe and confidential space. In this environment, the client can express feelings and thoughts which they may not feel able to talk about with friends or family.
It is difficult to describe exactly how counselling works since it is often a very individual experience for each client. But in general terms one could say that the client is, via counselling, given the opportunity to get to know themselves better and to connect with their feelings. This normally leads to that the client finds their inner resources and strengths so that they can ultimately learn to deal with their issues in a better and healthier way, instead of perhaps repeating old and unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
I use an integrative approach, which means that I use interventions from several different schools of thought, such as the Person-Centred Approach, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I also use CBT techniques and Anger Management Techniques when appropriate.
It goes without saying that all people are different, and I have found that the integrative approach works well, because it offers many varying ways of working with clients. As an integrative therapist, I am therefore able to adapt to my clients' needs and work with them in the most suitable way for them.
Some of the issues my clients bring are abuse, relationship problems, family issues, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety. However, I welcome any issues my clients bring and appreciate that far from all issues will fit into one specific description.
I offer open-ended or time-limited sessions depending on the client's wishes and needs.
I do not see clients who are below the age of 18, however there is no upper age limit.
I offer one-to-one counselling (not couple's therapy).
