About me
Are you looking for an experienced, well-qualified therapist to help you unravel your life?
Well, maybe you don’t need to unravel your life! … but you’d like to get to grips with a problem that you’re experiencing that’s causing you stress, worry and anxiety.
It’s not always momentous life events that bring you the most struggle, but often aspects of simple everyday life.
Maybe your own story is something you haven’t spoken about, or it might be that you have … but you feel like you’ve been going round in circles. Either way, problems left undealt with can sometimes slowly get worse, which could be what you’re experiencing.
Maybe it’s time for you to share your difficulty or pain. If it is … then I’d really like to help you find a way to peace, and understanding within yourself.
You may well only need a few sessions to get things clear in your mind, so it doesn’t have to be a massive commitment. Of course, if you find that you’re getting a great deal of value from us working together then we can simply keep going, with some plans in place so we both know what you’re looking to achieve.

Training, qualifications & experience
I understand how important it is for you to know what training I have had, and to what professional level I’ve qualified, as this does in your mind I’m sure make a difference to the quality of therapy you’ll receive.
Probably important to you also, is the kind of experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist I can offer you, as experience with any kind of professional is often a good gauge as to the outcome you get.
I want to reassure you from the outset that these are concerns I take very seriously.
This is why, when I started my training as a therapist and counsellor over 25 years ago, I specifically sought the best training and qualifications I could, leading me today to hold multiple qualifications from some of the most prestigious establishments in the UK.
These include a Doctoral Degree in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling from New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, and Middlesex University.
In terms of Existential Psychotherapy, training directly with one of the world’s leading authorities in Existentialism, Emmy van Deurzen, has offered me deep insights into the struggles of human existence, some of which you may be experiencing.
My Master’s Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, was obtained from the prestigious and respected Roehampton University, a training institution that is highly revered with the world of counselling and psychotherapy.
In addition, I have a healthy history of continuing training in the Counselling field (such as CBT, EMDR, Humanistic, and Analytical approaches), but listing this wouldn’t help you to make an informed choice as to how I can help you explore the difficulties you are facing, so how about getting in touch … let's arrange a session where we can sit together, explore what you’d like help with, and go from there.
I hold a DBS Certificate, and are a registered provider for Aviva, Aetna Global Benefits, Vitality Health, and AXA PPP Healtcare Providers.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

- EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing: £95 per session (60-70 minutes)
- Counselling & Psychotherapy Supervision: £50 per session (60 minutes)
- Counselling & Psychotherapy Supervision for Trainees: £45 per session (60 minutes)
Online sessions are available via Zoom/Skype/Facetime worldwide, at the rates above.
Payments are due prior to each session by credit/debit card or by bank transfer.
INSURANCE
Aviva, Aetna Global Benefits, Vitality Health, and AXA PPP Healthcare cover therapy with Dr Tom Barber. Please confirm with your insurer in the first instance.

CANCELLATIONS
If you need to cancel your session I require 48 hours notice, or your will be required to pay the full session fee on your next session.
SUPERVISION
I am a qualified Clinical Existential Supervisor, and focus in supervision on the Integrative Existential model, with the client-therapist relationship central to the therapeutic work.
