You may be thinking of coming to counselling because of a particular issue in your life or more because of long-standing difficulties. I have many years experience of working long-term with clients who are struggling with the consequences of wounding and trauma that occurred early in their life. These consequences can include generalised anxiety, panic, depression, unmanageable stress, crippling low-self-esteem and relationship difficulties. I also work with clients whose difficulties have arisen more recently and who may come for therapy for a much shorter time. Whether you are looking for therapy that will last a few months, or expecting something that may take several years, you will be the one to decide when you're ready to end.
I work with people suffering from a range of identified problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, abuse, addictions, eating disorders, low self-esteem, relationship issues and sexual difficulties as well as less specific feelings of awfulness and misery. You may be considering coming for counselling/psychotherapy because your life feels grey and bleak pointless but you can't pinpoint what is wrong.
I have many years experience of offering couples counselling to couples who may want to simply look at the dynamics of their relationship before they commit to a long-term partnership,or couples who feel desperate and on the verge of splitting up. Some couples that come to see me have been together for 2 years, some for over 30 years and many inbetween. It's never too soon or too late!
When you come to see me, you will be met with warmth and care and respect. You will not be crticised or judged or told what to do. I see my role as being an experienced and compassionate companion exploring together with you whatever you need to explore. My expertise and experience is in creating trustworthy, loving, healing relationships where people find they can free themselves from burdens and habitual painful ways of being that they may have struggled with for many years.
I have a deep trust in the capacity of each of us to heal and grow into living our lives in more satisfying ways. I offer a place where you will be trusted and valued for who you are, in a genuinely warm, safe, confidential relationship. I am inspired and motivated by an awareness of the unique potential for healing and growth of each individual.
I am a qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor/psyvhotherapist and creative couples therapist, working mostly in private practice in Islington, North London. I have been seeing clients for 18 years, after several years working in Mental Health Services, and in that time have worked with people from a range of nationalities and cultures, of different ages, classes, sexualities, religions and with varying abilities and disabilities. I am conscious of the power invested in the role of counsellor/psychotherapist and am aware of how much damage and distress has been caused in peoples' lives through misuses and abuses of power. I am attentive therefore to how I hold my power. The autonomy of the client, their right to choose how they want to lead their life, how they want to be in the therapy relationship - these are fundamental to the way I work.
I am a Senior Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by the BACP Code of Ethics
