About me

I strongly believe that the relationship between you the client, and me the therapist, is at the heart of any work we may do together. I strive to be open and honest and work in a collaborative manner with no hidden agendas. I strive to offer a warm, welcoming relationship in which you can feel heard and safe enough to explore and work on whatever it is that is causing you distress.

I know that it takes courage to accept you need help, determination to contact a counsellor and commitment to attend counselling. My aim is to be a faithful companion to you on your journey during the time we work together. There is no formula as to how to live. I welcome the opportunity to work with you to find your own unique resolution to your problems.

Experience

I have the experience to, and am willing to, work with most issues that lead you to seek counselling or psychotherapy.  Many clients come to me via their work, through their company's employee assist programme (EAP). Others seek me out privately.  I work with individuals, couples, groups, and people of most ages - normally 12+.
EAPs expect a counsellor to be able to work effectively with a very wide range of issues. I have therefore built up experience and expertise in many fields including work-related stress, anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, anger management, bereavement, addictions, working with teenagers, abuse (sexual, domestic, bullying, assault), trauma and couple counselling.

Telephone Counselling/Video Consulting

Telephone or Video Counselling might be a good option for you. This may be due to distances involved, time commitments, preferring the anonymity that phone/video counselling can offer or just because it is more convenient for you.  It may also be due to Covid19 restrictions. Some clients, in non Covid19 times, do a mix of phoning/video counselling and coming to see me in my counselling room.

Walking Counselling

Covid19 has challenged so much in our lives. A positive outcome for me is that I am offering walking counselling. I have always found solice and healing in nature and am delighted that walking counselling is something I can now offer.

What I offer

I offer both short-term and long-term contracts so that you can choose what suites your needs best. At the end of each session you can decide if you feel you want more sessions or not. If you would like to come again we then need to agree a mutually convenient time.  I offer both daytime and early evening appointments.  I do not work weekends.

Accessibility

Free street parking.  Bus stop at end of street.
There are 2 steps into my property. The counselling room is on the ground floor and their is a toilet opposite the counselling room.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
