Profile
In order to offer everyone an opportunity to gain from counselling my fees are based on a sliding scale from £15 to £50. I have over thirty five years experience of supporting people through difficult times, sixteen years as a qualified counsellor. My aim is to work in partnership with clients, providing a safe space in which to explore and develop a greater awareness of self, hence discovering heightened abilities to manage life issues.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Advanced Diploma in Counselling, Manchester University 1995
Diploma in Supervision PCCS 1999
Hons Degree Open University 1993
Qualification in Social Work 1975
Whilst working as a social worker with a voluntary agency and in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service I was a member of a Family Therapy team and used play and creative techniques whilst supporting children and young people. I have been a foster carer and fostering officer and am particularly interested in attachment issues as they effect carers as well as children and adults with attachment difficulties. I currently support families who have experienced the death of a child, or who have a child with a life limiting condition. My work as a counsellor in GP practises includes supporting those living with depression and anxiety, the effects of childhood and adult abuse, and multi-cultural issues.

Further Information
My work is based on Person Centred theories and philosophy. My training also includes understanding of other perspectives including CBT, Transactional Analysis, Psycho- dynamic and Personal Construct theories. I am happy to explore any of these with clients if you feel they will aid your personal understanding and ability to make changes. I work in New Mills but will consider home visits if disability or caring responsibilities make travelling difficult. In addition to my work with adults I have a great deal of experience with teenagers and younger children, especially in respect of bereavement and loss.
In addition to my counselling practise I have been lecturer on Diploma in Counselling courses and currently provide emotional support to families whose children are receiving Palliative Care.
I am an active participant of a full member group of the Independent Practitioners Network, IPN and a member of BACP.
