A warm welcome!
Something is wrong in your life? I’m sure that you have done the best you can to change things, and you now want some extra help to find another way forward. You may be clear about what is distressing you, and want to find ways of coping better.
On the other hand you may feel baffled, confused even. You don’t have to know what the problem is, or even what has caused it. We can work on this together to find solutions and resources that can help to turn you and your situation around. For counselling is all about working together to achieve your goals.
Almost everyone wants the reassurance that when they meet a counsellor, they will be respected, accepted and supported however mixed up they might be feeling. It is a key priority in my practice to create this atmosphere of emotional safety.
When we understand what makes us react the way we do, when we realise how powerfully our thoughts can affect our behaviour for better or worse, and learn to listen and respect that inner wisdom that we all have, then we open doors to insight and can bring about effective change in daily life and relationships.
So here’s good news, we have an endless capacity to heal and repair ourselves! There's help for you here. Please contact me if you would like a brief conversation about your situation, or if you would like to make an appointment with me.
All the best, and thank you for reading my page.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
My first career began in general nursing (SRN) and then midwifery (SCM). Following a break from the nursing profession in which I raised a family, I began training in counselling (1970’s), and then in psychotherapy (1980’s).
Over the years I've had training in Transactional Analysis, CBT, Integrative Psychotherapy, and Person Centred Counselling. I have qualified in Gestalt Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Clinical Supervision, and I have managed a private practice for 30 years.
For 5 years I worked part time as a Psychotherapist and Lay Chaplain in the Mental Health Unit of the University Hospital and Mapperley Hospital in Nottingham. In 2011 I qualified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Over the 30 years of practice I have accumulated extensive experience and knowledge and I’ve had the privilege of sharing the joy and satisfaction of many people as they completed their counselling and left with a renewed sense of purpose and direction in their lives.
A basic requirement of students of counselling or psychotherapy on most courses is that personal therapy throughout the time of training is required. I know therefore from the inside, what it is like to be in the client’s position. It can feel scary and be life changing!
I hope that you too will come into a realisation of your own healing experience. You are welcome to contact me by phone or email.

Further Information

My practice is in a beautiful and peaceful location in Grindleford, Hope Valley. It's situated on 2 bus routes from Sheffield, with easy roadside parking, and is mile from the railway station.
Many clients have said how much they value getting right away from home and work, and having time to think while driving out to Grindleford for their counselling. Returning home afterwards, gives them a quiet space to absorb and settle the benefits of the counselling session before re-entering the busyness and business of life.
