Counsellor Profile

Thanks for taking the time to look at my profile. I understand that trying to find a counsellor can be a daunting and confusing experience.

The first important aspect of counselling is for me to provide a safe and non-judgemental environment where you can discuss your issues. My approach to counselling is that it is a collaborative relationship in which I and my client(s) work together in order to achieve specific goals agreed during counselling.

Whilst ensuring that it is the client's needs that come first there are three main approaches that I take when counselling:

Multimodal – this model takes account of the person as a whole and encompasses the areas of Behaviour, Affect, Sensory, Interpersonal, Cognition, Volition, Imagery, Existing Strengths, Well-being and Spiritual.

CBT – this model places an emphasis on what people are thinking and how this then affects their lifestyle and actions.

Solution-Focused – this model focuses on realistic solutions that are achievable using the client’s existing strengths rather than on what has gone wrong in the past so we would be looking at what can be done rather than what can’t.

I see clients for an initial 1 hour meeting (for which I don’t charge). If we agree to work together I will then normally see clients regularly for 1 hour sessions (for which a charge is made).

I am fully insured and a member of the ACC. I work privately but am also involved in working with a local counselling agency as well as within local schools.

I can be contacted on 07769554001 or jemcounselling@btinternet.com and will be happy to answer any questions or to arrange an initial meeting.

Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)

I have completed an Introduction to Counselling course, followed by an Advanced Certificate in Counselling before going on to study a Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling (Therapeutic Work). I have trained to work with the Prepare/Enrich programme for pre-marital and married couples and I am also trained in a separate model to work with couples (this is using the studies and research carried out by Gottman). I have also studied Solution-Focused Therapy with Children and completed a Child Development Psychology Diploma.
