Profile
I am a fully accredited psychotherapist and counsellor with 20 years experience in private practice, working with a wide range of issues including depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, life-stress, grief, loss and bereavement, relationship difficulties, identity issues, trauma , and issues arising from abuse. I also work as a supervisor for psychotherapists, counsellors and health professionals. My former background was in academic teaching and research, and I am married with an adult daughter and golden retriever dog! My purpose-built counselling room in Kenilworth is very quietly situated, with parking always easily available alongside.I work with people from eighteen years old.
Life is challenging and there are times when the process of psychotherapy or counselling can be particularly beneficial to us. People seek this professional help for many reasons. Sometimes we are faced with particular life-stresses or traumas, and are looking for support to manage these times and make appropriate life-choices. Sometimes we become aware of a more ongoing, underlying sense of discomfort or distress and want to understand more of what this is about and how to move on from it. Sometimes we may have a sense that we want to become "more fully ourselves" and may want to explore our individual, cultural or spiritual identity.
I work relationally with people, providing a warm, safe and accepting environment and a range of skills and resources to facilitate personal development.I work with people to help them to become more aware of their feelings, thoughts and behaviours, explore their difficulties, and strengthen their inner resources. Often our sense of well-being is influenced by past events, and difficulties may arise when we have encountered a level of emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or spiritual distress or trauma in our past or childhood. I work with people to help them resolve and move on from emotional and psychological distress or 'blocks'. I work in an engaged, interactive and very supportive way, often by simply talking but also using creative materials.
TA provides a very rich theory to help us think about and understand ourselves and look at our interactions with others. Many people find these ideas very helpful in coming to understand their own personalities and how their difficulties arise. As people increase their sense of self-understanding, they are better able to identify good options for themselves, and make healthy life decisions and changes.TA therapy is contractual, i.e. we agree together on what change(s) you would like to make and work towards these together.
I work largely from premises in Kenilworth, with easy access and parking , and ocassionally in Leamington Spa.
