About me

I am an experienced, professionally trained therapist with over 20 years experience working in the field of mental health. This includes several years of working as a social worker and therapist in a variety of settings in child, adolescent and adult mental health. I presently work in private practice in central London. I am qualified to work in both brief-focused and long-term work, depending on the particular needs of the individual/s.

I work psychoanalytically or psychodynamically, meaning I aim to help you understand your present difficulties in respect of your specific personal history and current overall life situation. Psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy and counselling especially focuses on the interaction between two people, the client and the therapist. I help you to think about yourself and your relationships and the issues which are concerning you as opposed to providing advice.

In addition to my private practice I have worked for several years as an NHS psychotherapist (individuals and couples) in an out-patients dept at a central London hospital.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my professional training as a psychodynamic counsellor and then as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at WPF therapist, one of the most widely respected training bodies in the UK. I hold the WPF qualification in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy together with the Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Advanced diploma in Psychodynamic Studies from the University of Roehampton. This training is over six years in duration and includes botha substantial amount of clinical experience (over 700 hours) and individual personal, analytic psychotherapy.

I am Full-member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy (FPC), British Association of counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and I am registered with United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) .

I also hold a Post Grad. Cert. in Systemic (Family Therapy) from the Tavistock Clinic, I am a qualified social worker (Dipsw). and gained a first class, BSC (hons.) degree, both from University of North London (now known as the London Met. University).

I am currently undertaking a Doctorate and further clinical training in couples psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic for Couples Relationships (TCCR) where I also work as a visiting clinician.

Further information

The purpose of an initial consultation is to assess your needs and see whether this type of therapy could be helpful for you. This may also involve thinking together about alternative options if we agree it is not suitable.

Should we decide to work together, normally we would either agree on a number of sessions, focusing on a specific problem/area or open-ended therapy. Both would involve agreeing upon a regular, weekly session time, lasting 50 minutes, meeting on the same days and times each week.
