29 James Street West
Thank you for reading about me and welcome. I am an Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with extensive experience of working in both long and short term models. I work with both individuals and couples. I have been practicing for over 26 years, initially in the voluntary sector and then for the NHS and then in Private Practice.
I now spent a proportion of my time writing about emotional health. I am currently writing my second book and blog regularly for the Huffington Post. Due to these commitments I now offer daytime appointments on both Saturday and Sunday on a fortnightly basis in the centre of Bath. Many of my clients choose to book a double sessions on a fortnightly basis and find that this is an extremely effective way of working.
If you are thinking about having counselling or therapy I always suggest that we make an initial appointment. This gives me the opportunity to hear about you and why you are looking for support at this time. It gives you the opportunity to meet me and to get a feel of how I work.
I aim to provide a warm and safe environment in which you can talk freely about your situation. We will take time to reflect on your situation and look at the best way forward for you. If you then want to continue to work with me we can talk through and decide where we go from from here. I am also happy to refer you to other services and practitioners if we don't feel that my way of working is right for you.
There are many different models of counselling which can feel quite confusing when looking for a counsellor. Do please ask me any questions you may have about this. My core model is psychodynamic and it is this theoretical understanding which underpins my thinking, however I have undertaken training in many other areas and therefore draw upon many different techniques in my work. Using this combined approach can help us to find the best way forwards for you.
