Profile
Counselling, therapy or talking therapies have become part of Western culture as a method of sorting through thoughts and feelings whether it be to do with work stresses, relationship problems, bereavement or just thinking through some core questions like 'who am I?', 'how did I get to be where I am today?, 'how can i move forward?'
Clinics for face to face sessions are either in Haywards Heath W.Sx., Lewes E.Sx., or Gloucester Place, C. London. Sessions work as one-off consultations or a series via face to face or by telephone or Skype. Sessions are usually 50 minutes but can be negotiated as longer or shorter depending on need and resources.
Brief Focused Therapy sessions are 2 hour sessions allowing for a more in depth discussion at any one sitting. These sessions are generally either one-offs or conducted occasionally as the need arises.
Therapy is integrative in order to make the use of several theories according to someone's personal style, their need, resources and in line with recommendations gained from a broad research base. Models include Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches as well as using the technique known as EMDR for processing distress and trauma. The service caters for those over 16; individuals and couples and family groups. I offer consultative supervision with counsellor and psychologist colleagues and see therapists in training as part of their training requirements in personal therapy.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Doctorate in Psychotherapy by Professional Studies
MSc in Counselling Psychology
PG Diploma in Psychological Counselling
PG Diploma in Working with Adult Survivors of Abuse
Training in Supervision
BSc (hons) Psychology
Fully trained to level 3 in EMDR a specialist intervention for working with various forms of distress including trauma, anxiety and depression.
I am registered with 3 professional bodies: the British Psychological Society, British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and the Health Professions Council.
I work with people to enhance their quality of life and sort through various problems and difficulties whether it be to do with relationship breakdown or other life events that cause stress and anxiety.
I work with life events including trauma and bereavement. I also work with relationships in crisis with individuals, couples and groups and particularly with traumas that are either caused by relationships or affect relationships.
Struggling with work related stress is a theme people bring to therapy. Some of the issues of concern that people are struggling with are loss of self esteem, self image, loss of direction or career path. I also find people come and talk about career options in psychology or counselling as there are many opportunities for younger and older people to develop a career in this field.
