Profile

Psychological therapy or counselling has become increasingly popular in Britain. It offers an arena to sort through thoughts and feelings that can be difficult to manage if there is a build up of life events and pressure. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with BPS, a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with HPC & an Accredited Counsellor with BACP and have worked for over 25 years as a therapist in NHS and private and voluntary settings. Research demonstrates time and time again that we have have a survival instinct and resilience to cope with what life throws at us but that there are times when we need outside input to help disentangle our thoughts and feelings.

People can access one-off sessions or a series either via face2face meetings or telephone or skypeOnline. Sessions are the traditional 50 minutes or in some cases people appreciate 2 hour sessions to get to grips with their situation via Intense Focused Therapy
At 'JCL' in which several therapists co-work to provide face2face and telephone counselling in Lewes, Haywards Heath and Central London areas. I work mostly in the private sector with occasional co-working arrangements with colleagues in NHS when relevant and offer face2face and telephone or skype-on-line sessions. I started professional life in 70s as a nurse and began training as a counsellor after a series of traumatic bereavements shook both my family and the local community in which I lived at the time. I went on to specialise in working with trauma and stress that can come from relationship problems.

I work integratively in order to make the best use of therapy models according to someone's personal style, their need and in line with recommendations gained from a broad research base. Models include CBT, humanistic/client centred and psychodynamic approaches. The service caters for adults and children over age 7; couples and family groups. I offer supervision with counsellor and psychologist colleagues as a part of their work. I also see therapists in training as part of their training requirements in personal therapy or as a Clinical Supervisor for their practice.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I have particular interest in working with adult survivors of childhood trauma/abuse and the distress in adulthood caused by those childhood events; as well as with bereavement and loss. I also work with relationships in crisis with individuals, couples and groups and particularly with traumas that are either caused by relationships or affect relationships. I and my colleagues work with couples and with children who can have various difficulties coping with the 'stuff of life'.

Struggling with work related stress is a current topic people bring to therapy during this recession. Some of the issues of concern that people are struggling with are loss of self esteem, loss of self image, loss of direction or career path. I also find people come and talk about career options in psychology or counselling as there are many opportunities for younger and older people to develop a career in this field.

I am registered with and therefore monitored by 3 professional bodies: the British Psychological Society, the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and the Health Professions Council.
