Counsellor Profile
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist & an Accredited Counsellor and have worked for over 20 years as a therapist in NHS and private settings. I started professional life in 70s as a nurse and began training as a counsellor after a series of traumatic brereavemnets shook both my family and the local community in which I lived at the time. I work in an integrative way in order to make the best use of different ways of working according to someone's personal style, their need and in line with recommendations gained from a broad research base. Models of working include but are not exclusive to CBT, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. I see adults individually and children over age 7; couples and family groups. I offer supervision with counsellor and psychologist colleagues as a part of their work. I also see therapists in training as part of their training requirements or as a Clinical Supervisor for their practice.
Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)
I am registered with 2 professional bodies: the British Psychological Society and the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have a Doctorate in Psychotherapy, and MSc in Counselling Psychology, PG Diploma in Psychological Counselling, PG Diploma in Working with Adult Survivors of Abuse and numerous certificates in all sorts of strands including bereavement, family therapy and Pastoral Counselling.
I have worked with bereavement and loss in the early part of my career and subsequently worked mostly with Interpersonal Trauma and the distress in adulthood caused by childhood events. I also work a fair bit with couples and relationship problems and with children who can have various difficulties coping with the 'stuff of life'.
