Counsellor Profile
At some point in life most people experience prolonged stress - a feeling of being unable to cope. Difficulties can feel overwhelming. We can end up feeling useless, stupid and increasingly alone, with all the everyday things we need to do, feeling like mountains rather than molehills. Trying to sort out our problems, our relationships , our work practice, can feel as if it is impossible to see a way forward.
Bringing the difficulties confidentially to someone who is independent of your life, and trained in various forms of psychological therapy, can be a swift and effective way of understanding what is really happening in the situation and of finding ways forward.
Overall then, my aim is to listen, and to help people to regain a sense of peace, control and greater freedom.

Extra Information
Integrated Therapies Offered:
My work is integrated – rarely using any single model, but working in a fluid way to combine approaches that are likely to be most effective in dealing with the problem.
Client Centred:
Listening , reflecting and posing questions to open up material , allow exploration , and assist the client in working through the issues in their own way, whilst being supported by the therapist.
Solution Therapy:
As the term implies, the therapy focuses on learning from past experiences as a way of facilitating problem solving for future action.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:(CBT)
After generating understanding of why things feel as they do, the next stage is to work towards the insights and tools which will assist thinking and behaviour in ways which reduce present difficulties, and facilitate happiness and success in both personal and work relationships. The development of insights to understand why things have happened in the way they have; the use of different perspectives in looking at cause, and at relationships, both personal and at work; the ability to self monitor behaviour and thought patterns – to navigate- can bring the experience which gives back a sense of control, increases confidence and allows the possibility of happiness and a sense of calm.
This work is often integrated with solution focused approaches , existential work, and catalysed by the use of EMDR.
Existential Therapy:
Coming to accept and work round that which cannot be changed.
EMDR:
This therapy loosens the thinking processes and allows the taking on of new insights and ideas more easily. It is also very useful in building confidence and, in combination with CBT, in catalysing the ability to feel able to make the changes needed, and to face future difficulties more effectively.
Feelings of being repeatedly overwhelmed without good reason ; deeply unpleasant memories which set the scene for later anxiety, phobias, low mood, depression or difficulties in coping; addictive behaviour such as over eating or drinking, overspending, even procrastination, all benefit from the use of EMDR as part of integrated therapy. It can too, be an invaluable tool in diffusing unwanted feelings and facilitating a greater sense of balance, confidence and peace.
