I am a psychotherapist and counsellor with more than more than 20 years experience working with individuals, couples and groups with a wide range of presenting problems and issues working with individuals, couples and groups.
My view of therapy is that the mind, body and spirit are interconnected and that therapy needs to include all these aspects of experience. The two approaches that most influence the way I am as a therapist are the Person-Centred and Experiential approaches.
The Person-Centred Approach
The Person-Centred approach was created by Carl Rogers in the middle of the last century and has a developed as a major force in therapy around the world since. Rogers believed that we are all motivated by an innate tendency to grow to our full physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual potential and that we have vast resources within us for this.
The Experiential Approach
The Experiential approach has developed from the work of Eugene Gendlin, a collaborator with Carl Rogers in developing the Person-Centred approach. Gendlin considered that we need to focus on the 'felt senses' we may experience in and around our bodies or in our spiritual awareness about any situation, problem or relationship that is causing us difficulty or distress.
