    Extra Information

Psychodynamic counselling is based on Freudian theories of the unconscious mind, attachment theories and psychosexual development in childhood. I assist clients in making connections in their childhood to their current behaviour, emotions and thoughts. An awareness of these connections can initiate a process of change. You are always treated with respect and as the author of your own life.

There is a great deal of information on the internet about EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It has been used to treat: trauma (resulting from accidents, disasters, and emotional distress), bereavement, anxiety disorders (e.g. fear of public speaking, fear of flying, phobias), addiction, and substance abuse, depression, abuse (verbal, physical, and sexual) and self-esteem issues. There is a lot of scientific evidence supporting the use of EMDR and it has a high success rate. It is also recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as the treatment for Post traumatic Stress disorder.

In Philosophical Counselling I see new clients as friendships in dialogue. Each of us learns as we focus on the problems or issues. It is not based on belief or superstition but a real effort to discover the truth. And, even if the truth resists discovery, the journey may be intellectually and emotionally satisfying in itself. I offer no answers but I can perhaps help with some of the questions that need to be explored, which may reveal to you how to live a more fulfilling life.

Please email me if you require further information on any of the above.
