Extra Information
I believe that children and teenagers face many difficult challenges throughout childhood and adolescence and this can result in:
Anxiety
Social withdrawal
Disruptive behaviors
Nightmares/sleep disturbances
Eating disorders
School phobias
Self harm
Relationship problems(family and peers)
Depression
Each client is a unique individual and together we will work therapeutically in a way that supports and encourages exploration, healing and personal growth.
Working with Children and teenagers can be more active than with adult therapy and so I use a wide range of resources. Many children naturally express themselves in their play and in the imaginary world and this can aid the counselling process a great deal.
With older children and teenagers I often encourage exercises to help them explore their personality, feelings and to develop a general sense of "who I am".
Counselling adults : as a person centred counsellor I offer a non judgemental approach that allows my clients to tell their story as it is. As each person is unique I have no set way of working, some clients like to work creatively. This can be with story, poems, visualisations, painting, drawing, music. I encourage an awareness of the body and any physical manifestations of emotional issues.
