About me

Choosing a therapist can be a difficult and daunting experience and, with this in mind, I offer a free 15 minute introductory telephone or zoom session with no obligation to continue.

Quite often, people do not know how long they need to see a therapist for and much depends on what is going on in a persons life at any particular time.  This initial meeting can be used to look at what the issues are and how to move forward from there.

I am considered to be warm, friendly and approachable and I offer a confidential and sensitive space geared to your individual concerns and needs.   Counselling can be short-term from a few weeks or months to long term in-depth therapy which can be over some years.

Having trained in the person-centred approach I have developed my practice to the point where I have integrated other models into my practice.  I have undergone EMDR training which is considered to be very successful in treating PTSD and all types of trauma and now offer this to those who feel they would benefit from this approach.

I have worked extensively in the field of bereavement, counselling bereaved adults and NHS staff who have experienced bereavement during and after Covid and have worked closely with parents who have experienced baby loss and the loss of their child.

I have also worked for MIND counselling adults who have suffered with anxiety, depression, low self esteem and - in many situations - just struggling with the stress of everyday life and living!

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling (BACP Accredited).   I am a Senior Accredited Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and adhere to the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Following my initial training I went on to undertake a post-grad Diploma in Integrative Supervision and subsequently IAPT (NHS) Supervisor Training at Surrey University.

  Other training includes:

- EMDR Europe Accredited Training

- Working with dissociative disorders in clinical practice

- Post slavery syndrome and intergenerational trauma

- Working somatically with trauma

- UK/European Training on Addictive Disorders

- Working with Eating Disorders

- LGBT+ Inclusion training

- Divorce Support Group - counselling individuals going through separation or divorce

- Mindfulness

- Bereavement

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
