I use CBT,Cognitive Behavioural Techniques, EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing and HG, Human Givens Therapy, to provide short term solution focussed counselling to facilitate a prompt and permanent improvement in your mental wellbeing. I specialise in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Often people with current anxieties, depression, lack of self confidence or illness are suffering from the effects of small or large traumas from the past that a part of their emotional brain and their body may be clinging on to, these symptoms can be treated to clear symptoms and improve quality of life.
Cognitive Behavioural work involves exploring the relationship between thought processes, emotions, behaviour, physical feelings and the environment and relieving distress by changing one or more of these factors.
EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, involves reprocessing negative material that is locked into the brain and adapting it with positive processing, resulting in an improved state and increased self confidence.
Human Givens therapy works with people to relieve emotional distress, to enable them to feel mentally strong, able to set goals, alter expectations and realise desired outcomes.
My service helps you to live in the present and to look forward to the future whilst at the same time dealing with past issues. Using cognitive, behavioural, interpersonal and neural techniques, I will work with you to remove the emotional distress from traumas and phobias and we will work together on replacing these negative issues in your life with a positive focus and creative use of your natural resources.
The brain puts an emotional tag onto things that happen to us, this can be positive or negative. For example if you think of a situation when you were extremely happy and really allow yourself to wallow in that moment, chances are that you will smile and these thoughts will induce a positive feeling in you, this is something worth hanging onto. However if you think back to an unhappy or frightening experience this may also change your state of being, this time to a more negative state and it may be more beneficial to eradicate this feeling.
The emotional tag can be removed by moving this memory from one part of the brain, the amygdala, to another more logical part of the brain, the frontal cortex. This process helps you to leave the pain of the past behind and to move on with your life.
Together we look at what changes you want or need and examine your lifestyle and any patterns you may have that could be contributing to your problems or dilemma. We look at trigger situations for issues and the way your thoughts, emotions and behaviour are interlinked and together we set new patterns into your neural pathways to effect positive change.

I have worked for the last 18 years in many different areas of psychological distress, ranging from mild anxiety and low self esteem through to depression, health issues, post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, eating disorders, panic attacks and other varied issues.

Sessions are charged at £50 per hour
Initial session is usually 1 hour and 15 mins and I charge £60 for this.
I offer a discount of;
10% for 3 sessions paid in advance - these to be used within 6 months
15% for 6 sessions paid in advance - these to be used within 9 months
Home visits are by arrangement with a fee for travel.
I have an enhanced CRB check from September 2010.
