Profile

I practice in both Central Nottinghamshire and Stratford-upon-Avon,Warwickshire. I have 15 years experience specialising in addictions i.e alcohol, drugs, gambling and associated psychological disorders such as anger, depression and anxiety. My aim is to provide a non-judgemental, safe and confidential environment for you to explore painfull and emotional difficulties.

I work with a diverse range of issues including addiction which has been a major part of my therapeutic work in treatment centres and more recently as a private practitioner.

During these years, I have developed an approachable, confidential and responsible private practice providing the following services:

• Face to face counselling to individuals and couples.
• Employee counselling
• Personal development therapy for students in counsellor training.
• Addiction treatment consultancy
• Addiction treatment therapy based upon 12 step model.
• Family therapy (adult)
• Group therapy.

What is Counselling?

At times we all need someone to talk to, someone who will listen and accept us at a time when we are experiencing difficulties in our lives. Counsellors are trained to listen attentively and provide an opportunity for you to explore your problem/s in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

Sometimes we are faced with problems we find very difficult to accept or even understand and feel there are no answers or relief from the situation. A counsellor can help you achieve clarity to the problem and support you through this difficult time.

Counselling helps you explore and understand your feelings about a problem or situation in greater depth and enable you to look at what caused you or led you to this difficult place.

Counselling helps you to change and work towards a happier and more fulfilling way of life.

My Philosophy

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental place to explore and understand areas of difficulty and associated problems. I will help you to cope in the present by facilitating a change to your thinking and behavioural process. The change you experience can help you change the way that you feel about yourself and life in general. Meaningful and lasting change develops through the process of understanding and accepting the self fully.

Family Therapy

I also work with families/loved ones of those experiencing the illness of addiction.

Unfortunately addiction not only affects the person experiencing the illness but also engulfs those closest to them. The abusive and destructive behaviours of the alcoholic/addict manifests itself within the family unit and generates an ongoing experience of chaos and distress and usually the addict remains oblivious to this.
Family therapy is a support mechanism for the loved one/s of the person suffering the illness of addiction. It is a process designed to enable the loved one/s to detach from the negative behaviours of the addict, live their own lives but at the same time apply a more creative and beneficial way of helping.

Family therapy sessions can take place as a group process or on a one to one basis. The addict can attend the one to one sessions if necessary and only with the consent of the family member.

Family therapy is an important part of the addiction recovery process.
