About me

Trying to find the right person to work with can be tricky!

If you choose to meet with me, you will find that I relate to you as an individual. Even though you wont be alone in the reason(s) you have for seeking a counsellor or psychotherapist, you are unique! I do not adopt a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to therapy for this reason.

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist in full time private practice in Witney, with over 17 years experience. I work as a therapist, counsellor, supervisor and trainer. A summary of my qualifications and memberships are listed below.

In essence I offer counselling & psychotherapy which:

- can be short or long-term
- is tailored to you
- is effective
- is integrative
- draws from a wide range of approaches of well-established, tried and tested,   reputable theories and techniques
- includes body and mind & the unconscious
- deals with relationship issues - with self and others

My initial training was an eclectic mix of therapies including: CBT & Behavioural Approaches, Psychodynamic & Psychoanalytic Approaches, NLP & Hypnosis and Humanistic Approaches such as Gestalt & Person Centred Therapy.

In continuing to train extensively in and outside of these areas however, I became an Integrative Relational Body Psychotherapist: 'Integrative' refers to there being many different approaches in psychotherapy, each having elements in them which are helpful to the therapy; integrating the different elements of these approaches enables taking the most useful elements of each; 'Relational' is used, as the relationship that occurs between client and therapist is key to the therapy; 'Body' is included to balance the fact that it is an important part of who we are, and many of our emotions and feelings are expressed there.

As you can see, I have had a broad range of inputs from the various developing schools of psychotherapy, and can therefore draw from this wide range of influences in our finding a way of working together.

Prior to working as a psychotherapist, I had spent many years participating in and running personal development groups which means that I have spent the last 25 years developing my understanding of, and ability to work with, people on many different levels with a wide range of problems, issues, concerns and needs. An initial session is good place to start to find out if we both feel we can work together.

I have a commitment to CPD (Continuing Professional Development) which enables me to continuously be developing my practice, and keep up to date with new developments in the field. I am also fully insured and in regular supervision.

I run OCPARS (The Oxfordshire Counselling & Psychotherapy Assessment & Referral Service) with a colleague, so if we are unable to work together whether because I am full or you are looking for something different, then I can usually refer you to someone with whom you can.

I also run Witney Therapy Centre, where I have my consulting room. There are three other rooms at the centre which are used by other counsellors and psychotherapists in Witney and Oxford etc. Rooms are also rented out to hypnotherapists, massage therapists, accupuncturists, etc.

Many other areas, please enquire.

I currently charge on a sliding scale between £52 and £75 per hourly session for weekly psychotherapy, and £75 per hour for couples. Those on high incomes (hourly rates > £100) are invited to pay an extra amount which will go into my bursary fund.

Bursary Fund:
Reduced fee arrangements are occasionally possible, depending on the bursary fund and availability, so please do enquire.

Depending on when you contact me, I may not be able to see you right away, but if you decide waiting might be okay for you, it is a good idea to book an initial session with me anyway so that we can explore the possibility of our working together.

Or, if you prefer - I can help you find a therapist through an assessment and referral session.

Further information

I have an integrative diploma in Supervision from Cascade, which was founded by Brigid Proctor, one of the original developers of the 'parallel process concept'.

As an Integrative Supervisor, I offer supervision for practitioners from a wide range of orientations, and consider tht the relationship which develops between the client and the therapist / counsellor as underpinning and central to the work that you do. As with therapy, I suggest an initial session to discuss whether we might work together would be of use. Please see the Fees & Booking Sessions tab for further information.

Training:'Experiential & Developmental Supervision Group'

I offer this training and development group for practising post-grad counsellors and psychotherapists who have completed their training. This group is most suited for practitioners in their first five years of practice, though more experienced practitioners can contact me to discuss whether the group might by suitable for them.

These groups will use the case material you bring, together with the process of the group to develop our understanding of relational interaction, which is the central theme of our work together, and of our work with clients. As we will use the groups process in our work, we will inevitably face the same kinds of dilemmas as we do in our work.

The groups contain between 4 & 8 practitioners and run for two & half hours once per month for a year. You would be expected to make a commitment to attending the group for that year. the next group will start as soon as enough people have registered.

The group will meet at the centre in Witney, at a time to be arranged according to collective availability. I wish to earn about £180 per session, so the fees for this group will range between £25 and £45 per session. I estimate there will be 10 sessions during the year (dates TBA)

If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please contact me to arrange an initial session so that we can explore together if it would work for you.
