Why might you consider therapy ... now?
Many people can have easy conversations with friends where they can sort out many of the issues they meet in their lives. If you are scanning through this website it is probable that chatting with friends or family is not meeting that need and you are curious about the way therapy might help you.
Your concerns are unique to you, and some of them may be found in the list below however, this is not exhaustive and does not mean that your individual issues are less important or valid.
How will my therapist work with me?
My approach to therapy for each client is based in that person's individuality with each course of therapy tailored to those individual concerns. I do use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as recommended in the NHS, but only where that is appropriate for the client. CBT is used to address unhelpful ways of thinking about issues. I also offer Psychodynamic Therapy, which looks at the way past experience influences current behaviour and thinking. You may recognise the development of your problems from these short descriptions. These are only two of the approaches I may use to address your concerns. Each therapeutic programme is as unique as each individuals concerns.
Not all clients know exactly which specific issues they wish to address, however they do know they need to talk to someone. Through an assessment, and talking with a therapist, it is possible to identify specific concerns that can be worked with in therapy.
Will my therapy be private and confidential?
Please be assured that all therapy remains confidential to yourself and your therapist. I adhere at all times to the ethical guidelines of the BPS and HPC (Professional and Government regulatory bodies)
How common is the need to attend therapy?
If you have a problem with your body - you see a health professional; if you have an emotional or life problem - see a therapist (10% of adults experience depression at any one time - The Office For National Statistics/March 2011). Therapy is as normal today as seeing any other professional because you have a specific problem you wish to address.
What sort of concerns do people take to therapy?
Anxiety; depression; relationship difficulties; bereavement and loss; low self esteem and lack of confidence; stress; obsessive compulsive disorders; health issues and difficulties related to unhappiness or abuse in childhood or adulthood are some areas where talking therapy can be useful. This list is not exhaustive and you can discuss your personal concerns in your initial contact call, which is free of charge.

Fee range (April 2011)
Therapy:- £45 - £95 for 50 minutes
(Ability to pay is taken into consideration so please call to discuss)
Supervision:- Trainees £45 per 60 minute session
Qualified therapists £55 per 60 minute session
What happens at the first session?
Your first session is a time when you can talk through your difficulties and decide if you would feel comfortable working with me. I will also answer any questions you have about the process of therapy at this time. At this time I will be starting to assess your difficulties and will give an indication of the way I may work with you.
We will also consider the number of sessions I feel would be required for you to gain the most benefit from your therapy.
How many sessions are usually needed?
Further sessions are devoted to exploring your difficulties and looking at the concerns you wish to focus on.
The number of sessions required will depend on the nature of your difficulties and will be decided through mutual discussion. The average number of sessions ranges between 4 and 12, however some clients may find less or more sessions are required.
