Profile

I have more than 20 years experience as a counsellor.  I do not charge for the initial session as I see this as an opportunity to explore with me  what you are looking for from counselling and to help you to make a decision about whether this feels right for you.

I am a BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ) Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and have worked in the field in Bristol for 20 years.

I work from rooms in Bishopston, North Bristol and  I usually have evening appointments available.

The sort of issues I can help with are listed below and include anger management, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, stress related symtoms, addictive behaviour, bullying and life crisis such as bereavement, divorce, post natal depression, relationship difficulties with individuals (I do not work with couples), and work related stress.

I began to train as a counsellor following a period of depression and anxiety after the birth of my third child in the 80's. Therapy really helped me and it was following this time that  I decided to begin to train as a counsellor myself.

I was stimulated by the person centred views of Carl Rogers and I am now a qualified, trained, integrative counsellor combining person centred counselling with psycho-dynamic theory. I have also experience of working with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) in addition to my core training . I use CBT when it feels appropriate and helpful to do so.

I believe that we all have within us the ability to change and grow and that being listened to in an environment which is non-judgemental and with someone who has no vested interest in the changes and choices we make can be life changing.

This can be particularly important at times of stress when life feels overwhelming and it is hard to cope or when a problem such as depression, anxiety or difficulty with social situations or work related issues keep reappearing in our lives .

At our first meeting I will listen to you and discuss what has brought you to counselling and together we will talk about what would be most helpful to you; either short or longer term work.

When it feels appropriate to end I ask that you come for a final session to have an ending to our work together.

In addition to working with general issues as listed below I have also worked in the field of student counselling, alcohol and drug addiction and H.I.V.
