I have been working as a counsellor for over 20 years and have a Diploma in Counselling and am BACP Accredited. I have a room in Bishopston and offer an initial session so that you can meet me and explore what you are looking for and whether you feel counselling is the right thing for you at this time. I do not charge for this initial session.
If you are feeling depressed and anxious and lacking confidence life can feel like a continual uphill struggle. Sometimes a bereavement, relationship difficulties or a problem with work can feel so difficult to cope with on your own. Counselling offers a space that is just for you where you won't feel judged or intimidated and can move towards making changes that felt too difficult alone.
We will explore some of the patterns and ways of thinking that may be contributing to your difficulties and I am trained as a person centred/psychodynamic counsellor and also use some CBT strategies to help you to make changes and move forward.
I work from rooms in Bishopston with parking and easy access to buses on the Gloucester Road. .
What sorts of difficulties do you work with?
I am experienced in working with clients with a wide range of issues including generalised anxiety, depression, panic attacks, social anxiety, post-natal depression, relationship difficulties, and addiction to alcohol.
I also have experience of working with people with a diagnois of cancer and their family and friends, as I h worked as a volunteer at Penny Brohn Cancer Care. for over 4 years.
How long would I have to come for counselling ?
Sometimes people find that a few sessions of counselling can be really helpful to help them get a new perspective on things and to move forward. On the other hand more sessions may be helpful or even to have some sessions, then come back again at a later date. There are no rules about this ! I am happy to work with whatever works for you. I do know that coming to counselling can be life changing and the experience of being listened to by someone who has no other connection with the rest of your life can be very liberating.
I charge £42 per session.
I can talk about a lower fee if you cannot afford the full rate.
I work from my private practice in Bishopston and I do usually have late afternoon appointments available. There is parking and buses on the Gloucester Road are a 5 minute walk.
I began to train as a counsellor following a period of depression and anxiety after the birth of my third child. Therapy really helped me and it was following this time that I decided to begin to train as a counsellor myself.
I was stimulated by the person centred views of Carl Rogers and I am a qualified, trained, integrative counsellor combining person centred counselling with psycho-dynamic theory. I have also experience of working with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) in addition to my core training . I use CBT when it feels appropriate and helpful to do so.
I believe that we all have within us the ability to change and grow and that being listened to in an environment which is non-judgemental and with someone who has no vested interest in the changes and choices we make can be life changing.
