Profile

About me: I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I trained as a social worker in the early 1970s, and then as a counsellor in the mid-1980s.  When I am not working as a counsellor I am involved with friends in community work, including running a free counselling service in Hitchin, Herts and some international aid work in India. I am also a part-time (Quaker) Chaplain at a university.

Experience: Although I have been in private practice for 25 years, I have also been a counsellor in the NHS.  I have been a psychological therapist in a hospice, and a staff counsellor in a university.  My specialist trainings include:

• working with the dying and the bereaved;
• workplace stress;
• couples and relationships;
• sexuality & sexual orientation;
• adoption counselling;
• family mediation;
• depression.

I am an accredited sexual minorities therapist, a registered adoption counsellor and I work with individuals and couples.

Supervision: I currently work as a clinical supervisor to nurses and medical staff in two NHS hospitals, and offer counselling supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors.

BACP Accredited Counsellor since1988; BACP Accredited Supervisor since1999.
BA Applied Social Studies, 1975; Certificate of Qualification in Social Work, 1975. Diploma in Counselling 1986; Registered Adoption Counsellor 2008; Certificate in Sexual Minority Therapy 2009, Accredited Sexual Minority Therapist 2010.
