Diana Eastman MBACP (Senior Accredited) UK Registered Counsellor

Profile

I work in private practice in Totnes with my partner Nigel Parratt (MBACP Snr Accred) (www.croftcounselling.bacp.co.uk). At the heart of my work is my intention to offer good quality, non-judgmental, listening in a spirit of compassion and trustworthinesss. My experience covers a wide range of issues including relationships, bereavement, anxiety, dperession, low self-esteem, trauma, stress, employment, carers' issues, living with long-term illness or disability and couples counselling (any sexuality).

I have over ten years experience of counselling in private practice as well as the voluntary and statutory sectors. I used to work for the National Association of Citizens' Advice Bureaux as an advice worker and trainer.

At the heart of my work is the person-centred approach developed by Carl Rogers. I opted to train in this method, and continue to practice it, because I believe that the working relationship it helps to create provides the most effective basis for all types of counselling and psychotherapeutic work. This belief is reinforced not only by my experience but also by current research findings.

Person-centred therapy is based upon a deep trust of each person's potential and capacity for growth, development, happiness and fulfillment. Our experience shows that if a person feels truly understood and accepted then positive changes and aware choice become possible. Our intention is to offer a safe, confidential space in a quiet and comfortable room where people will feel able to speak openly, confident that they are being listened to in an open, non-judgmental and genuine way.

Since completing training in 2000 I have continued to widen and inform my practice in a number of ways including:
- tutoring on local university accredited counselling courses
- gaining knowledge and experience of other therapeutic approaches so that we can integrate the most effective of these where indicated by a person's specific needs
- meeting regularly with other counselling and therapy practitioners to give and receive peer support
- regular supervision with a trained superviser
- meditation and mindfulness practice.
