About me

I qualified as a therapist in 1998 and as a casework supervisor in 2001.  Since that time I have also undertaken much additional training.  I work in an integrative manner, using different approaches to benefit your own individual needs.  I work with a wide diversity of clients and issues and alongside this I also specialise in working with difference in gender identity and sexuality.

I believe it is important to work hard to quickly establish a sound therapeutic relationship to enable you to develop trust not only in me as your counsellor, but also in the counselling process.  Because of this, I meet with you first for a one-off 'Introductory Session'.  This gives you an opportunity to tell me about yourself and what you are hoping to gain from counselling.  It also provides me with an opportunity to work out what I think will be the most effective way of working with you and I can then discuss this with you to see what you think.  Together, we will decide what is the best way for us to work together to achieve your goals.

I work from a self-contained office in my garden at home and am based in Fallowfield, about 2 miles south of Manchester city centre with easy road links from the city centre, M60/M56 and surrounding areas. There are also regular bus services to/from: Manchester city centre and large parts of south Manchester. Both Burton Road tram stop and Mauldeth Road rail station are approximately one mile away.  Because I work from home I do not publish my address on here but, once we have agreed a first appointment I will give you all the information that you need to get to me.  I also offer sessions remotely, either by phone or video using Google Meet.  If you want to work remotely, I will ask you to complete a short questionnaire first to make sure that remote working is suitable.

I also facilitate bespoke training workshops to a variety of providers and trainees. Recent workshops/seminars have been delivered to voluntary based counselling services, the NHS and local universities.  I have also taught Diploma/Masters level trainee counsellors at local colleges and universities.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
