Counsellor Profile

I am an integrative counsellor using a range of approaches depending on the needs of the client. I have worked through RELATE and MIND in GP practice and at 'Surestart' in the North East.

I am trained in the person-centred model but also 'Relate' qualified in couple counselling and through my GP practice work in Brief Therapy.

I work with individuals and couples with a range of issues, but notably those around low self esteem, anxiety, loss, bereavement, problems with anger management and work-related stress as well as with those seeking to do personal development work.

I came into counselling from a background of teaching in colleges, adult education centres and prisons, working with those seeking to make positive changes in their lives. From there I went into community work, supporting people experiencing mental health issues or who were for many different reasons struggling to cope with feelings of vulnerability. This included working as a volunteer with Aids patients in New York. I am currently combining my counselling work in independent practice with mentoring students in a college.

This vastly varied experience has provided me with so many opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills which have become invaluable in my counselling work with clients.

I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework.
