About me

Collectively we have been through a few difficult years of change and stress. If you are now reading this I'm wondering how affected you have been by recent events or are issues from the past now emerging which you are struggling to cope with on your own.  Maybe you are feeling more anxious and stressed and your self esteem and confidence is at a point where going out and socialising or even getting up in the morning can feel like you have to climb a mountain.  Or are issues now re-surfacing like difficult relationships, work stress, anxiety, health,  depression or financial worries.

In a lot of cases it feels hard to talk to friends and many worry about being a burden. In a way it is easier to talk to a therapist who is not linked to your life. As your therapist what I can offer is a space for you to express how you are feeling and together we will hopefully be able to help you move to a place where you feel more in charge of your life and emotions and hopefully build your self esteem and belief in yourself. I work in an exploratory way which isn't about giving advice, but more about helping you form your own mind.  I only work daytime and do not unfortunately have evening or weekend sessions available.

I am a Senior Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been accredited since 2001 and running a private practice for 22 years now based in Shirley near Croydon.  I am also the ex-Chair and current Executive Committee member for BACP members working in private practice.

My style of working is integrative with an emphasis on a psychodynamic theoretical approach. What that means is that I offer an exploratory style of therapy based on a theory that we are shaped by events and relationships in our childhood. My style of working would focus on past events as well as relationships and attachment issues in the present. I operate an open ended policy so I would work with you until you reach a point where you feel you are able to see things from a different perspective rather than perhaps the troubled view that exists at the moment. Sessions take place on a weekly basis, at a mutually agreed time, either once or twice a week, dependent on need.

If you are interested in working online, please make sure you are in a place where you can't be overheard and you have a secure WiFi connection.  It's OK for you to sit in your car or walk if you can't create a confidential space in your house.

For future reference, my consulting room is based in Shirley, Surrey and on the Kent border, there is a choice of 4 buses from central Croydon to Shirley or the 119 from Bromley. I am 3 minutes walk from the 194 bus stop from/to East and West Croydon. There is ample free parking outside.

For companies, I can offer group and 1-1 sessions for support with critical incidents at work.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
