Counsellor Profile
I am a compassionate person, with 19 years of psychotherapy experience. Having received my training in California, I have a University Degree from University California Los Angeles (UCLA) and an advanced degree from California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). I am highly trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental and emotional conditions. My training involves considering the situation in which a person lives and works and to pay close attention to the ways in which cultural influences affect individuals and families.
My dedication and focus is in the treatment of eating disorders, grief and loss, and spiritual development including finding meaning in the second-half of life
My spirituality training includes the philosophies of Salzberg, Goldstein, Chodron, Borysenko, Remen, Whyte, and others. I work on mindful awareness which helps me to live in the moment, honour my intuitive process, and note gratitude on a daily basis.
What I offer
Psychotherapy
I provide psycho-therapeutic guidance in a supportive and caring environment to individuals, couples, groups, and families.
Case consultation
I provide case consultation to colleagues whose clients suffer from eating disorders.
Guest Speaker/Staff Trainings
I can speak and address questions regarding eating disorder topics such as early intervention, how to recognise eating disorder symptoms, and how to approach adolescents and their parents with potential eating disorder concerns. I may also be of service by being a visiting speaker in students health classes on the topics of eating disorders, grief and loss, and transitions for students such as death or divorce in families.
Retreats
I offer four retreats a year. Each retreat is held at Plas Uchaf, a Country Guest Home on the Shropshire/Powys border. The workshop retreats teach techniques to incorporate and further develop relationships with others and self while deepening your own sense of holiness in your life.
Spring Retreat
Connection and Disconnection with Self and Others
Workshop Description
This retreat will focus on skill training for the purpose of enhancing your relationships with self and others. Close attention is paid to the heart being part of the skill training. Journal writing helps you to follow your inner guidance. It provides ways to regularly take inventory of your life, your interests, your values, and the quality of the health of your relationships. Journaling can be a mirror for your soul. Topics addressed at this retreat include, how to listen for understanding, views of adaptation to change, techniques for making changes, making decisions from a constricted heart or an open heart, as well as identifying personal needs in relation with others. The workshop will provide participants with some creative journal writing questions. Opportunity to plant a new seed (metaphorically) representing conscious new growth is also included in one of the workshops. In addition to providing new insights, an important goal of this workshop is to provide a space for healing and transformation.
Summer Retreat
Honouring the Body
Workshop Description
The body depends on you to take care of it. Many of us have been shamed and continue to feel shame about our body. The shame we feel leaks into aspects of our life such as self esteem, the ability to trust oneself, the permission or lack of permission we give ourselves to play and act in a spontaneous manner. Stifling yourself is like putting a shunt on your soul’s freedom to experience life fully. This retreat is designed to not only provide new insights, but also to provide a space for healing and transforming negative self and body beliefs.
Autumn Retreat
Meaning in the Second Half of Life
Workshop Description
As we approach the afternoon, dusk, and sunset of our life, we are often faced with the call to live with more candour…a calling to live in a more conscious way that involves self-examination to reflect on choices we made and choices we are going to make; some of which are life altering. In the second half of life, there is opportunity to enhance personal possibility, take risks, and stop self-sabotaging choices.
Winter Retreat
To Thine Own Self be True
Workshop Description
The dark becomes frightening and destructive only when we deny and disown it. The healing that occurs in the dark precedes renewal, and we do emerge back in the light with the wisdom that change has brought. The seasonal rhythm beckons us to hibernate and be still, gather our energies inward, withdraw, rest, and reflect. This workshop is designed for participants to review, reflect and renew what matters in their life. Sometimes what we say matters is incongruent with what we pay attention to in our life. Walls conscious and/or unconscious can become obstacles to fulfilling purpose and meaning in your life. Understanding what your wall(s) might be, why they are there, and do they still need to be there is part of this retreat’s workshops. When what you think, what you say, and what you do is one of the same; you live.

Extra Information
Extra Info: Healing from pain often happens when there is a sense that feelings and experiences are understood by a non-judgmental person who bears witness to pain. Therapy is a place where listening transforms pain into wisdom. The wisdom acquired helps you see and feel things from different perspectives and thus, becomes a gift to take with you in your present and future life.
